Confederate flag on state property/on state flags?

The one day I read that the sales of the flag skyrocketed on Amazon I thought people were just being irrational... Then of course the next day I find out that Amazon banned the sales too along with Ebay. If I had been smart I should've stocked up and then found an outlet to sell them at twice the price lol.

I'd be offended I someone burned the confederate flag but I would support their right to do so. When I think about it while ga had the best state flag their new flag is pretty darn cool. The battle flag is okay but the flag of the confederacy is the true symbol of the south. People just like the stars and bars Bc of how cool it looks and all the rebellious nature associated with it. This public outcry against the flag will sadly only promote a resurgence imo

You have a right to believe what ever you want, but government buildings should not be endorsing ANYTHING involving slavery, even if it stands for more than that. It's literally the equivalent of a swastika. If you want to fly the flag- go for it. Keep it out of government. It's offensive to an entire race.

The flag we're all familiar with is the battle flag used by General Lee, not the official flag of the confederacy. Nevertheless, all confederate flags represent treason against the united states. That's what the confederacy was by any textbook definition. Regardless of the racial aspects of the flag (which imo are even more important), this "symbol of heritage" is really just a symbol of treason against the United States. If you're cool with that, then whatever. Fly it in your yard. However, do those wanting the flags to remain on public property not see the irony behind flying a rebel flag along side the US flag that the confederacy fought so hard to escape from?

I'm pretty sure we are all Americans, and not Confederates.

Why fly that battle flag anyways? Everyone that actually lived during the 1860's is long gone.

Get over it people.

I saw this on my Facebook feed just now...

The black guy also commented in support.

Honestly I'd prefer the power structure to change. We don't need a central government like we have one exactly. I am for States rights, currently. I'd rather not Washington D.C. dictate EVERYTHING, as they are (unless they make me dictator), and as it has been mentioned, the stars and stripes could be associated with far worse than the rebel flag.

I understand the issues people have.. But sometimes I think their reactions ask for something far worse. The left in many ways asks for a huge, central government. I'd rather have agreements on what really matters. I'd rather the DEA not interfere in medical marijuana and other things. Etc. I'm sure many feel the same way, but what they ask for then goes against that. Our Government, which passed the TPP while this debacle was going on (not that anyone cared largely, the timing was coincidental), should be allowed to be challenged. I'm an American, and I'm made by rebellion. It is the ability to argue it/stand against things that makes it what it is. Fucking hypocrites.

I think I'll start flying the Swastika in my window. I mean, it's not a nazi thing. I'm just of German heritage and to me, the swastika is just a celebration of that.

The 'swastika' has use dating back very far, and not just a certain angle, certain origin, "good" swastika that was thought to have been stolen and bastardized by the Germans. It has had many forms throughout the world, including ancient Europe. But, the only accepted form seems to be the kind that is Willow's avatar, by many. Even that causes questions, understandably though.

In a way, isn't such association letting bad win?

The swastika wasn't only bastardized by the Nazi Party, it was given an entirely new context and was entirely redefined.

The stars and bars, on the other hand, was created exclusively as a means to commit treason against the united states and uphold the values and economic institutions the south relied on (ie - slavery). So when someone says they're using the flag as a symbol of their heritage, what do they mean? The southern economy was nothing without slavery, which is what caused secession in the first place. southern cotton was the largest export by FAR (largest in the world iirc). They knew their economy would crumble without slaves to keep it running. Ergo, this heritage everyone likes to talk about is so deeply tied to slavery and treason that it's quite difficult to argue otherwise.

Why not fly your southern state's flag if you're so enamored with southern sub-nationalism?

I don't agree about the symbol known as a swastika.

I am not from a southern state. I haven't felt a desire to fly a rebel flag. But I take the position of devil's advocate because honestly I don't see "it offends me" or "I'm afraid of it", or "it means this evil" as an excuse for anything. Honestly what if someone finds a convergence of meaning in it? Personal. They arrive independently to a meaning, and it aligns? Who are you to say they shouldn't use it? What if I have independently understood the swastika symbol and resonate with it on a personal level... Does your belief that it has been "redefined" trump this? If you believe that, the more you do, the more it makes me want to raise every flag, and take every stance, against you. For truth.

For a few minutes at least. I like this flag. But my oh my don't some associate it with racist tea-partiers? Shit. Better take it down. Like spineless society. Leftist flow. (?!)

I don't know. Symbols... I try not to let myself be controlled by them, but I have some appreciation. I definitely don't want my processing of them to be controlled by/overwhelmed by the influence of people like you.

I know my post sounds offensive/personal. Don't take it personally (unless you can benefit). Just saying.

Up here in ky people have been flying the battle flag off the back of their trucks. It is cringeworthy and I'm sure it will only be worse in east tennessee the next week.

The state flags should be representative of the citizens of the state. Let them vote on that. That being said lone confederate flags should not be being flown at state buildings. The confederacy was defeated and until they decide to quit postponing rising again then they can't fly it at government establishments. I wonder if when I drive through crossville tn on the us40 the giant 50 foot confederate flag will be flying. At least they maintain it well

TV Land Pulls ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Off the Air

A week after Warner Bros. announced it would halt the production of all merchandise featuring the Confederate flag on General Lee, the iconic car from The Dukes of Hazzard, the show has inexplicably disappeared from TV Land’s lineup.

WB announced the move as major retailers Walmart, Amazon, eBay, and Sears all introduced bans on the sale of Confederate flag merchandise in the wake of Dylann Roof’s Charleston, SC shooting rampage at a black church.

“Warner Bros. Consumer Products has one licensee producing die-cast replicas and vehicle model kits featuring the General Lee with the confederate flag on its roof — as it was seen in the TV series,” a company spokesperson said June 24. “We have elected to cease the licensing of these product categories.”

It now appears the controversy may have driven both the show and General Lee, a 1969 Dodge Charger, completely off the air.

Despite the ban on merchandise, General Lee could still be seen in all its glory twice a day on TV Land, until Tuesday.

A spokesperson confirmed to Entertainment Weekly Wednesday the network has pulled all reruns of the series from its schedule, but gave no explanation as to why.

The Dukes of Hazzard originally aired on CBS from 1979-1985.

Ben Jones, the actor who appeared as “Cooter” for all of its seven seasons, defended the show’s use of the flag last week, and said it was a symbol for the “indomitable spirit of independence.”

“Activists and politicians are vilifying southern culture and our heritage as being bigoted and racist,” Jones said. “We know that this is not the case. And we know that in Hazzard county there was never any racism.”

Don't need to ban anything, the pc police will just remove it.
