[Comparison Subthread] Acid vs. Mushrooms

LSD is much better than shrooms... Shrooms give me a good body buzz, but when I want to trip, I don't want a body buzz, I want crazy shit going through my head... Hehe..

Acid is more recreational for me, in that I don't learn anything from tripping on it, I just have the experience of the trip. Also I find that acid is a lot more weird than mushrooms.

Mushrooms on the other hand; well those are the best drug for me and my favorite because I learn so much from them. I learn more about myself, art, how the human mind works, and how spirituality works.

A friend of mine told me something that I couldn't agree with more. "Acid is like the scary philosophy teacher and mushrooms are like your favorite art teacher."

psilocybin vs lsd

I've done searches for this everywhere....does anyone know where that lsd vs shrooms thing is on erowid? I need the comparrisson chart to show it to a friend...

hmm....those really focus more on duration....i'll read them later :D. I'm looking for the one with the standard yellow erowid background that has a side by side comparison that talks about the visual patterns, general feeling, etc...

During the beginning of my psychedelic experimentation, it was easy for me to state basic comparisons for LSD and Psilocybin. However, with further use, I realized that they are both very unique. Other than the fact that they both make you trip, I don't find them much alike at all. Unlike some people that would argue that LSD is much more intense, I believe they are both very potent. I would encourage some of those people to take a "spiritual" dose of Psilocybin, unlike the 1/2 an eighth of mushrooms that they are used to taking. Psilocybin seems to wave from one thing to the next. LSD seems to push you very forcefully from one thing to the next. Psilocybin's visuals are more "earthy," while LSD's are more bright and geometrical. Psilocybin, for me, produces alot more body euphoria, while LSD produces more psychological euphoria. Psilocybin produces spiritual connection, while LSD produces constant revelations. Psilocybin is more likely to cause laughter for me than LSD. ..Well, that's all I can think of. Keep in mind that these are just my opinions. Many would agree with me on most, some may disagree, especially with the spiritual/revelation contrast.

^^^ Very nice description, I agree completely. I find high doses of mushrooms everybit as potent as LSD, often more meaning full for me. As you said, it gets hard to compare the two, they really don't share too many similarities when it comes down to specifics. The body vs. mental euphoria is also right in line with my experience.

Its quite odd to hear someone call psilocybin as 'potent' as lsd. compare 500 micrograms of psilocybin to 500 micrograms of LSD then we'll discuss potency. However under the circumstances of the conversation, i havent had a lot of really high dose mushroom trips, but I have noticed that mushrooms put me a lot more in control, as far as motor skills, speech, ability to maintain composure, and overall trip go....

Yeah, potency may not have been the right word, but I think you know what I mean... If you can still walk, talk and maintain, then you aren't taking the kind of high doses I had in mind. Mushroom generally affect my motor skills much more than LSD.

I've done very high doses of LSD, and not once did I feel "out of control" like I do when I take high doses of mushrooms. LSD seems easier to control than mushrooms, at least in my experiences.

Totally agree with you on this. I've had some rather high doses of psilocybin and the visuals were always more organic in nature than LSD. Lot's of plants, vines, and animals interacting with me while LSD visuals were mostly variations on geometries. An exception with this was some rather amazing 'cid on my very first trip where I watched a story writing itself on a grassy hillside. All the words were written in what looked to be rope as it was a story about a cowboy named 'Bill' ...complete with pictures forming themselves as outlines of cactus and horses. When I would come to the end of a sentence a new one would begin writing itself at the top of the hill. I was quite hilarious at the time and the visuals were wonderfully organic in the sense of it's cartoonish quality. Something right out of a childrens book.

Agreed

I didn't mean potency in terms of weight. ..I should have said intensity of experience. 500mcg of Psilocybin wouldn't likely even have an effect on you. I have taken at least 500mcg of LSD before, and that, to me, is every bit as intense as my high dose Psilocybin trips, but I would never say that either one is more intense than the other. I have had mushroom trips that were so intense I couldn't even speak. I have felt total reformation of things around me on both chemicals. I have felt the need to let go of control on both. I could see why some people find high doses of Psilocybin more "out of control," but my LSD trips have all been pretty much like that, while lower doses of Psilocybin are easily handlable

Love hearing trip reports, great story Oceanbear. They are kinda like hearing about peoples dreams except NOT boring.

Having done both high and low doses of each...

LSD

geometric patterns...flashing in colors...spinning/turning...senses crossed...
smooth trip, gradual up and down...reflexes fast as lighting, eye hand coordination excelent, fast studdering speech...splitting, dividing, multiplying and branching kaleidescoping in a mechanized world out of hand...sci fi hallucinations (people like aliens, bizzare animals)...trails...overall vivid

Weed while tripping: bumps it up to an insane level!!!!! Every effect more intesnse...extreme euphoria and body high

Muscle tension, shaking, energy

Large doses: unnatractive yet fascinating truth, out of control but makes sense, no paranioa, dellusional yet ammusing, uninhibited, fear periods bearable

Shrooms

"primitive" patterns, like Celtic knotts and animals...waves of colors...no spinning/turning...sensed crossed...bumpy trip, comes in waves...staggering around, slow speach...Dividing like a painted delta or tree...earthy hallucinations (people cartoonlike or rocky crumbly looking)...no trails...overall dreamy

Weed while tripping: very relaxed, bumps up visuals, reduces nausia

severe nausia, vomiting, tiredness, weakness

Large doses: very out of control, paranoia, dellusional, increased inhibitions, fear periods unbearable

I agree with much of the descriptions here.

What I can add:

LSD almost always is more "psychological" and the visual patterns move (as the dosage levels increase) from geometrics to, for me, a more collective consciousness archetype-revealing realm.

Shrooms on the other hand are more body-drunkenness. But the hallucinations (especially in a darkened environment) have a much more three-dimensional immersive aspect.

Also, I noticed that recall from LSD is very vivid and clear, while shrooms are tremendously less so. LSD recall can be intense and detailed, but the shroom recall is more impressionistic.

In very a high dose i had i found myself staying out of the "temporary disconnections" that most have, i seem to do this by concentraiting on anything physical... thing is, i can't stop doing it!! .. Very Intense out of control as i couldnt stop my mind focusing on physical stuff like movement or doing something.. By the end i had intense feelings of paranoia ...

For anyone else that gets the para's real bad towards the end of the trips .. do you think the body load .. the feeling of heavyness brings this on .. seems it to me..
