ColtDan Is More Of An Alright Guy Who Takes Too Many Drugs Appreciation Thread

I do believe Dan just proved my decision a good one :D

I don't think it's good policy to base every decision on what a noob or passer-by might take from a thread - not in terms of social threads and not when it's one thread amongst thousands. It should be fairly obvious this is a knockabout thread to any that read any of it at any point.

To be fair, it is taken on a case by case basis. We had a Cheese Appreciation Thread for a long time (and still do if you search for it). Foodstuffs and other inanimate objects will likely stand more chance of retaining an open appreciation thread than members will though. I'm not entirely sure on what the historical reasons are for this but it has been EADD tradition for as long as I recall. Perhaps simply a reaction to the glut of such things one will find in Teh Lounge (given longstanding... disagreements of opinion with that particular forum) perhaps simply because they single out members and could perhaps cause issues in that way. We like to be inclusive in EADD. Oh yes we do. We actually do. That's not to say it always works out that way but it is the aim and intention to make any and all who use this forum - as posters or readers - feel welcome and equal. Because all are welcome and all are equal. Appreciation threads can be abused to make some people seem more equal than others. Hence, not encouraged and - generally speaking - not allowed.

Again, this is my personal interpretation of EADD forum rules, guidelines and traditions and is always open for discussion, debate and change if there is appetite for any of those things.

No I never received any PM. I applied to be a mod in NMI, as everyone knows, I'm not one to keep secret about that sort of thing, n have not heard anything. I haven't typed in over a week on here to be honest.

Must admit I don't quite see what prompted that being a "Strictly Bizniz" post but would be churlish to turn nose up at praise so will agree - I am on sparkling form tonight clearly. I blame the drugs... ;)

Am but joshing, and you do know there's a shortcut to making a boy purr by praising his verbages. And his nounages and adjectivages. I'll skip the rest of the grammaticalages for sake of brevity and sanity.

Shambles - please delete my post if it's not appropriate, but instead of closing the other thread, could you not have deleted the posts that were causing argument? I'm not criticising you it's just that it was good of FG to make that thread n point out those scams - it's just a few of us who were silly n starting arguing over petty stuff. It's just a shame for FG to lose a decent thread because of a few of us. And really it was me that started the disagreement by going on about people with Asperger's being easily scammed.

I won't delete it but for future reference it's better to PM a mod if you want to query a decision they have made - is considered bad form to call out publicly however well intentioned.

(Don't worry - I'm not in the least bit offended and you can call me out on decisions as much as you like but please keep it to PM if only because it's only chance I saw your post here at all so you'll get a better response via PM... theoretically :o)

(actually i'm pretty good at returning pm's on modmatters in timely fashion so have at it)

I'll think about re-opening the thread and just removing certain posts but there really wasn't much discussion being generated aside from the sidetracking that got it closed. I don't think it's any great loss but if FG or anybody else feels strongly about it a clean-up and re-opening is quite possible. I just don't think it's especially warranted or worthwhile in this instance. The potential negatives outweigh the potential positives. As ever, my PM box is open if anybody feels differently <3
