7News reports that the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol says it will turn in nearly 160,000 signatures in favor of the legalization initiative Wednesday to the Secretary of State's Office -- nearly double the 86,000 signatures required to put the question of pot legalization on the 2012 ballot.

The state then has 30 days to decide whether or not the pot measure will be on the ballots, according to The Denver Post. If it gets approval, it would be the first measure approved for the 2012 Colorado election.

The amendment seeks to make the personal use, possession and limited home-growing of marijuana legal for adults aged 21 and older. It establishes a system in which marijuana is regulated and taxed similarly to alcohol is currently. The act also would allow for the cultivation, processing, and sale of industrial hemp, according to the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol website.

Hope this gains momentum in more states

if they can fight the gigantic and numerous and influential lobbies that are against legalization (ie. prison industry, law enforcement, tabbaco , alcohol, etc there is many of them) then maybe it stands a chance.

To be honest I dont think this is going anywhere. Civilians want pot legalized, Corporations and Government entities dont. Now, if we DIDNT live in a CORPRATE democracy where bussiness can lobby (read; bribe) politicians we'd have legalized pot long ago.

We are never going to stop living in society where the rich continually feed more and more off the poor no matter the extant. So long as that rich can bribe the people we have entrusted to take care of matters like legalization were always going to be doing (in a systematic sense) what whoever has the money to fund a politicians campaign should say we do.

Hopefully, more states will continue to petition the DEA to change the scheduling of Marijuana. It simply makes sense. Compared to many prescription drugs off of the top of my head, Marijuana has little side effects and the ones it does have are inconsequential compared to ones like death or organ failure that can occur from prescription medications.

The government and the pharmaceutical companies should quit being so greedy and profit minded when it comes to medicine more so than anything if they care about the future of this country.

^ A lot of Big Phama isn't even USA-based. GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Novartis, Hoffmann-La Roche, Shire, Reckitt Benckiser, and a few other major players are all Europe-based. Just for the record... I agree with your sentiment.

Call me a dreamer, but (imo) most of the people that serve this country, as well as enforce the rules, would do anything for the greater good, if you could simply make it make sense to their fragile retarded little minds.

You are correct, I should say that *"if they care about (at least in part) the future of the world.

Alcohol industry should stop hating on pot. The two go together quite well in my opinion. Just because one is safer than the other doesn't mean alcohol should get angry. :(

I enjoy weed more when I drink, and I enjoy alcohol more when I smoke. But I do both less when I can do either.

IMO the two industries need to partner together and sell cannabeer.
