The agenda is strong with this one.

A 2-year-old girl in Longmont, Colo., tested positive for THC after she ate a pot cookie on the ground outside of her apartment, the child’s mother said.
Aida Hernandez, believes her daughter Evelyn found the laced cookie in the grass outside, a local CBS News affiliate reported. About a half-hour later, she noticed her daughter getting very lethargic.
“She was asleep, she was opening and closing her eyes and she couldn’t walk really well. She was weak,” she told the station.
Miss Hernandez said she immediately took Evelyn to the hospital where she tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, CBS reported.
Police in Longmont have launched an investigation but told the station that they searched the mother’s home for any signs of drug use and found nothing.
Americans who are 21 and older are now permitted to purchase recreational marijuana in Colorado and some opponents of the new measure say accidents like this will increase.
“It’s everywhere,” the mother told CBS. “Now that it’s legal, they have it everywhere,”
Her oldest daughter, Amira, worries that what happened to her little sister could happen to anyone.
“All of the parents watch out for their children. I don’t want other children getting what she got,” she said.

Ahhhhh fuck this bullshit, as if weed wasn't everywhere to begin with you just never had a fucking reason to notice.
SOMEBODY PLEEEEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN

....and here it starts, well shit.

First mom, what the hell are you doing with your eyes off a 2 year old outside of your home for long enough for her to get more than 1 nibble of some nasty shit she found on the ground?? It could have just as easily been a nasty used cigarette butt or a pill that someone had dropped or a poisonous mushroom or a can of half drank old beer that someone left laying in the grass...I mean, come on, watch your damn kids, its your job.

I mean there are so many things that are already out there, legal or illegal that could have done damage to a 2 year old if she is not supervised well enough outdoors to make sure she isnt eating shit off the ground.

Of course critics will go after the fact that it was the demon drug that will be the downfall of your society disguised as an innocent child's treat.

It'd probably be a good idea to watch your 2 yr old a bit better and not let it eat random shit off the grass outside your apartment in future.

Her oldest daughter, Amira, worries that what happened to her little sister could happen to anyone.

I'd be alot more worried about finding needles that might have some STD or drug in it than a cannabis cookie personally.

in other news a women tested positive for being a slouch mother who lets her children eat random things off the ground.. could be way worse sweetheart could have eaten something that could have caused real damage like a few Tylenol, a few multivitamins, some damn rat poison, dog shit, rotten food.. yeah better keep an eye on your kid lady. Bad mothers should be banned, think of the children.. if you dont think bad mothers should be banned you are against the children.. how can you live with yourself when you are against the children.

"“All of the parents watch out for their children. I don’t want other children getting what she got,” she said." good advice so good you better take it yourself Ms. Hernandez.. that is if it wasn't really your or you boyfriends cookie. Yeah I just noticed my 2 year old getting sleepy and instantly thought it was a pot laced cookie she found on the ground.. yeah right.. who are you Sherlock Holmes.. this shit stinks of utter bullshit.. she is lying through her teeth.. of course the house was clean because she cleaned all her shit put before she left for the hospital.

All of these post make good points exceot I don't understand hobbles lol

Child neglect lock her up! Haha

Rediculous this makes news, other suspected stomach contants carrots turkey an some dog poop.

At least this is the worste they got for pot being LEGAL in colorado! I'd be stoked if I found that cookie.

This is disgusting!
They should be serving her clean cannabis cookies, not ones off of the ground!
What if there was dirt on that cookie, or bugs?! 8o

/sarcasm

But I strongly suspect those of you who are saying that the mom should have been watching her better are not parents.
In real life - not the fantasy of your imagination - it is fucking difficult, and actually impossible, to watch your 2- year old 24/7 for the whole year.
You do the best you can, but there is no way to do it. They move fast and you can't always predict what they will do next.
Also, lots of people out there are single parents, and they are working at a job, and have no break at the end of the day, because they have to go home and cook and clean and do the laundry and still find energy to play with their kids, if they can. When they go outside, they might use that chance to talk with an adult or send a text message....
If you take your eyes off of your kid for just a few seconds, anything can happen.
Eating a cooked laced with weed is almost the most benign of all of them!
That is why those of us who try to be good parents (and are not single parents) try to never take our eyes off of our kids, when they are that small, but it is still impossible.
If you don't believe me, just try it for yourself....

Like alcohol?

So.... no injuries or fatalities? Just a two year old who was stoned for a couple hours?

No, I'm not condoning giving toddlers recreational marijuana. But if this is the scariest story the sensationalist media can come up with to oppose legalization, it's going to be an uphill battle for them.

"Opening and closing her eyes" sounds a hell of alot better than "stopped breathing and wouldn't open her eyes" after biting into an oxy or some sleep medication that is currently being advertised on television.

what do single parents have to do with this issue?

It is not too difficult to understand, actually.
Parents generally share the burden of trying to watch children.
Since the ideal would be to watch small children - say, from birth through 4 or 5 - 24/7, but this would take all the life energy of a human adult for 4 or 5 years, families with 2 parents need to help each other and take turns with the responsibility.
Families with just one parent suffer in this regard. There is no rest for the parent, so inevitably s/he will not watch the child(ren) as much as s/he would like to.
What I was saying - possibly somewhat clumsily - is that, despite the fact that I am not a single parent, it is still impossible to watch our children 24/7.

Disagree with what?

I was saying (or at least trying to say) that even in two-parent families, it is impossible to watch a child 24/7.
Is this what you disagree with?

Are you claiming that you watch your child (ren) 24/7?
Are you saying that you have never turned your eyes away from them when they were outside, even for a half a minute?
(If so, I suspect that your child must be an infant)

Do you pay someone else to watch your child?

Do you think that a child needs more than 30 seconds to eat a cookie they find on the ground?

Don't you think (as I believe) that the fact that your child has never ingested anything that she shouldn't have is, at least in part, due to luck?
Or do you think that parents have complete control?
Do you really believe that life is as simple as that?

Sorry for all the questions; I am just surprised to see a parent saying what I think you might be saying.

I was once with a friend and her son in a market. The friend is an excellent mother, and watches her children like a hawk. Her son - probably about 2.5 or 3 years old - was walking 3 steps in front of her. Someone opened the bulk almonds and spilled them all over the floor. Before anyone could react, her son had pounced and was shoving them into his mouth, directly from the floor. Even though she was watching him, he got the food into his system. Seeing this, I realized deeply that it is not humanly possible to control every second of your child's life, even if you are watching carefully.

Do you think that a child needs more than 30 seconds to eat a cookie they find on the ground?

I could eat a cookie in under 5 seconds when i was a child, maybe two of them. 30 seconds and we are talking an entire cookie jar + a glass of milk.

its about how much effort you put into parenting. some people just dont give as much of a shit even if there is two. being on your own makes you less complacent because you have no-one to fall back on. its always you hence you dont switch off the way you do when "someone else can deal with it"
