Collecting Kief - using coin damages plant material

Hello everyone I've been interested in collecting kief so I could make hash one day.
I'm currently using sharpstone grinder (4 piece) and what I did was I first inserted
a dollar in the third compartment where all the grinded up weed falls in. I threw the
grinder in the freezer for 30 mins, after I shaked it for about 5-10 mins. I noticed I
collected A LOT of Kief but I also noticed that most of the plant material was gone!

Is there anyway to avoid this?

just used the grinder as normal. over time the kief in the bottom compartment will collect, like it's supposed too. :)

i never have the patience to let it build up…after i finish a sack i go straight to the kief :p

the coin isnt a bad idea, but first off only use a quarter or a nickel (depending on size of your grinder), nothing too big and thick. but the main problem is that you dont want to shake it that much. your pretty much just breaking the plant matter into small enough pieces to fit through the screen. just keep the coin in it all the time, and just turing it, unscrewing it, moving it around, passing it back and forth, and other stuff like that will knock off a nice amount of keif, but wont destry your bud. if you must, you can shake it a little right after you break some up, but just shake it back and forth a few times (back when i used a coin in my grinder, just for the hell of it, i would sometimes do the finger snap thing you do on chewing tabbco tins a few times)

Just don't use a coin, a couple of sharp hits to the side of the grinder with the scissor blades does the same thing without damaging your material.

I've also found that if I put my grinder in the freezer, the keif clogs up the mesh from the tiny bit of moisture and won't fall through, having to be cleaned out before trying to collect more.
