Cold Water Extraction fail

Today I tried to cwe codeine from 64 paracetamol and codeine. I let the pills dissolve and placed the container in the freezer for around 20 minutes. I then used folded kitchen paper as a filter. To start with I could see the codeine dripping through but around 4 hours later, there was still quite a bit of liquid on the filter as well as sludge, this liquid simply was not dripping through so after 4 hours of filtration I gave up. What could cause this?? Is it meant to take this long?? Fed up of waiting, I drank the solution which was very cloudy so presumable some paracetamol got through, and I only got a tiny bit high, nothing compared to my usual 400mg of codeine which I get from swallowing 24 pills of nurofen plus. How can I successfully do this in future??

You do not need to use a coffee filter. Acetaminophen is like fine sand. Dress shirt material works well.

64 pills? Try a using half of a 20oz water bottle filled with water. Put it into the freezer until it is just beginning to form ice crystals. Then add the crushed pills to the liquid, shake for one minute, then strain through the fabric. Do not dissolve the pills in the water until after you chill it.

You can still salvage your extraction. It will have more than the ideal amount of tylenol (none), but you did not waste your pills.
