Cold Showers

You will! I haven't met a single person yet who hasn't said "It feels great!"

Start cool (not too cold) then gradually get colder (either in the shower jst now depending on how you feel or each day get a bit colder)

Enjoy! You might want to start by dousing your left thigh, then right, then stomach then chest and then the face and head. Then once you are used to it, you turn around and do the back, whilst screaming "PRAISE THE LORD!" and rejoice in the simple euphoria of cold showering :)

reading this thread makes me feel like a big girl's blouse. *deep breath*.... ok will see

This is what I do too. I think jumping into freezing cold water is too jarring of a feeling to actually want to do it voluntarily.... So I start my shower at a normal warm temperature to wash my face and hair, and then I keep gradually turning it cooler and cooler until my final rinse is in water as cold as I can stand it. There's a definite fine line between it being super invigorating and being painful lol. But I do think it's easier to make it a lot colder if you gradually turn the knob. The final result is kind of orgasmic, actually!

Ah right, nah, I go straight into the ice cold water as I personally get the most benefit/strength/invigoration/orgasm from this method but yeah, whatever works for you! I started off only going to number 4 (quite cool), but after a couple weeks got down to number 1 (absolutely hypothermic). You should try having a cold bath. I actually reckon it's alot easier than a shower. You start feeling pleasantly warm after a very short while, but the initial shock is "FUCK YEAH!"

As long as the water is never hotter than "cool". The recommended temp is at least 10degrees C. The most important thing though is just making sure you dont put yourself off the idea for life by making it too cold to begin with!

TBH, the most important part of my body to make sure is only touched by cold water is my face and head. Anything hotter than "cool" strips the natural oils from the skin, cold water makes my skin quality A LOT better. The cold water on the head is what makes all the difference wit anxiety, depression aswell. Plus its the cold water that has increased the quality and look of my hair. Apparently it can help prevent baldness, and it wouldn't surprise me if this were true as my hair is noticeably thicker and better since stopping using shampoo and only washing it with cold water!

Have you ever heard of a 'cold sauna', a4? I vaguely remember seeing this on some cheesy reality tv show of all places, but it was intriguing. I think you may like it ;)

I just tried this and I have to say it's amazing, I feel awake and positive for the first time all week. And its really not that hard guys, just set it to cold and jump in. I don't think that i had it any lower than 60f but it definitely seemed to do the trick :)

Firefighter - Nah I haven't heard of a "cold sauna"! Sounds great! Basically sounds like a walk-in freezer though! TBH, I don't know if you would get the same benefits from just standing in a really cold area as compared to dousing yourself in the cold liquid. I would imagine the lack of direct bodily contact with the coldness wouldn't provoke the same circulatory benefits, but I could be wrong. I think one of the main parts of the hydrotherapy is the 'dousing' itself. Again, I could be wrong and i'm interested to try it! Sometimes where I live feels like a constant cold sauna though!

onetoomanytimes - Good for you! Many people don't have the balls to do it, but the fact you are going to give it a shot already shows you have the strength to battle through the initial shock! Expect a shock at first, but STICK IT OUT. YOU ARE PERFECTLY SAFE, regardless of potentially feeling like you are struggling to breathe or rapid heart rate! You will honestly love it, if you just stick it out until you get to the point where you feel quite comfortable. You don't even need to go freezing cold....just make sure it's "cool to chilly" for the first time.

Let us know how you go!

AnaïsNin - I'm glad to see there's another convert! The awake and positive feeling never ceases to surprise me! It's really funny, there will be days where I feel kinda tired and a bit shitty, and it's one of those ones where you basically are just waiting until you go back to bed again so you can wake up and it be a fresh day, but every single time, without fail, having a freezing cold shower turns the shittiness around and gets me feeling positive, happy and energetic!

Take care

I used to still be freezing after getting out, every single time.

This went away after a short while,

How long do you stay in the shower? I found that the shorter the time spent in the shower, the colder I felt after.

Try not going too cold just yet either.

Well now that it's gotten cold outside I simply can't do the cold showers. It is just literally painful. I guess they will just be a summer thing for me!

firefighter m'dear, why don't you try putting the temperature gauge up a bit higher so the water is about the same temp. as what it was during summer?

Aye you're no wrong though, number 2 on my water temp. gauge is hypothermic now! As soon as I get that dial down to 2 I bellow out "OOOOHH SAAYYY CAN YOU SEEEEE" and burst into laughter and sometimes start screaming "FUCK YOU, AINT NO MUTHAFUCKIN SHOWA GON' BE BOSS OF ME". It really helps. What a way to set you up for the day and get you in gear.

Try laughing during it, btw. It really, really helps!

Well, I haven't started taking cold showers... But I have stopped washing my hair with soap!

For a reference, on the last page...

Yeah actually I just realised that I used to get a lot of dandruff when I used shampoo and conditioner but haven't had a single flake since stopping the use of it.

Yo AddictiveP, jst thought you might like to know that it actually took me nearly 14 days to stop getting the greasy hair and whatnot. After about 2 weeks, then my hair's natural cleansing system kicked in and I've never looked back.

It's been three weeks since I've used soap/shampoo on my hair. What little dandruff I had is basically gone. My hair is not noticeably greasy. You'd expect it to look like I put Crisco in my hair. :P

For those of you who have debated trying this, try it out. Don't get discouraged around day 8 or 9 when your hair does look like it has lard in it--It will get better! :D

how long is your hair addictivepersona? does your hair smell ok without using shampoo/conditioner? i bet I could probably do it.... hmmm

^ It's maybe an inch shy of being chin-length. I can't smell my own hair, but my girlfriend hasn't complained of it smelling of anything except smoke (I live with a smoker). Also, I haven't used conditioner in years. :P I think you'll be fine if you give it a go no matter the length of your hair--The oiliest bits of my hair are those closest to my scalp.

Good luck if you go for it, and be sure to keep us updated. :)

Cold baths are recommended over showers by some, but in my personal experience, cold baths are significantly easier to endure and hence not as effective for me. Cold showers are infinitely more hard to embrace so I prefer them. After just 45 seconds in the cold bath I could sit there all day long perfectly fine, but with a cold shower I can keep making it colder, and colder, and colder...and the fact you aren't entirely doused in it means I don't get as used to it easily. The constant challenge is what builds strength and keeps my anxiety at bay.

Confession: The past week or two I have been pretty inconsistent with cold showers tbh. Waking up at 5.30am in the pitch black, snow outside, freezing winds has made me become a bit of a pussy and go for hot showers just with a little cold at the end but on Friday I manned up and got back in the shower before work.
My usual anxiety in the morning was completely gone. Now, I know about the anxiolytic effects of cold showers of course (i've sung their praises more than enough for one lifetime) but it never ceases to amaze me.
I was able to brazenly walk into work and discuss an issue thats been irritating me, with the boss with no difficulty. I wasn't anxious in the slightest and I entirely put that down to the cold shower. Such an immediate, noticeable effect. Wunderbar.

So aye....the thermogenic effect of cold showers is outstanding too. Since stopping being a ladyboy and getting back into the full-on cold showers I have been able to embrace the cold wintery weather. It's been intensely windy (100mph winds) and -10 already with snow, sleet and rain and I've been the only one able to actually not mind it too bad. I was unable to handle it during the 2 week period of warm showers.

Cold showers FTW. I will never go back to hot showers....this 2 week slip-up re-confirmed that.

^ I hadn't thought about it that way. Cold baths i find very daunting getting in but that's part of the reward, however i hear you about it being easy to stay there once you've been in for a couple minutes.

Cold showers on the other hand i find easy as pie to begin with but it's hard to endure for more than a few minutes, especially when you hold your head under the water! Jesue it's like torture!

I still find i feel physically better after cold baths though. Something about immersing your entire body in the water does some crazy wonderful things to my muscles.
