Cold Showers

Hot water strips away your body's natural oils which actually help cleanse your skin. The best thing you could do (cleaning wise) for your skin/acne is to wash with freezing cold water and permanently discard of the disgusting chemical-filled "facewashes".

Also, one thing that interests me aswell is the prevention of baldness. I don't have a baldness problem however my dad went bald quite young and since I started using cold water my hair almost seems thicker aswell as cleaner and healthier.

You do get used to it after a while aswell. Before I could only get down to number 4 and a half on my shower gauge. Now I can comfortable get to 3 which is SERIOUSLY cold!

It really is funny the manic laughter you can get from doing this :) Im away for my cold one just now...

I just tried this, got in the shower when it was barely warm and lowered it gradually - I was suprised at how low I could go (no pun intended) Now feel like I've got a current running through my body, its great.

Now I know why those nutters go swimming in the sea all year round - not so nutty now hey.

When you guys are talking about cold showers, you mean like completely cold right? as in no hot water?

IMO thats the best way. No Pain No Gain ;)

wow i never even thought about this and everyone seems so estatic, guess ill have to try it haha.

I am typically a cold-shower person. I absolutely LOVE cold showers and they are a must in summer and after workouts/exercise!!

However now that I'm getting a bit older, during winter I am appreciating a nice hot shower every now and then more and more :)

But mostly I prefer cold showers.

Usually when I say cold, it's really actually cold-luke-warm, so perhaps like 18C (65F)? But if it's really hot weather or if I've just done a really intense workout I will just have the cold water running and no hot at all.

Yeah I wish I had a temperature gauge on my shower...

But I can assure you....my penis retreats deep into my body whilst turning blue, my body goes numb and it feels like shards of ice slicing my body. I always totally scream like a little girl for the first 60 seconds or so...the neighbours must wonder what the hell is going on. No pain no gain is absolutely my motto in life,

Although I do actually start it at number 6 which is lukewarm (still by no means warm though) and now I can easily make it down to number 3 which is funny because before I couldn't get past number 5. You definitely get used to it...

There would be no need for me to go colder than the number 3 on my dial because the water would probably just turn into icicles as it left the shower head.

I still dont understand that one and only person who said they SWEAT after a cold shower (because of humidity). It was 96% humidity here yesterday and a really hot day but the cold shower only served to cool me down, even after I was finished.

Well mate, I don't actually have a solid idea of what the temperature of my cold showers are. HOWEVER I do make an educated guess by remembering what the absolute coldest water I've ever felt was, and say, what medium temperature water feels like.

So for example:
The absolute COLDEST water I have ever bathed in was when I was still in waterpolo training, and it was literally the first session of the season, i.e. the end of Spring. It had been a particularly cold Winter/Spring and it was an old outdoor pool that was totally shaded by trees.

The water temperature was recorded at 13C(55F). When we jumped in the pool it felt like needles stabbing in to our skin. We had to train in that water for about 2 hours. Some girls had to abandon the session because they were going blue.

I've also swum in the ocean when it's been like 20C(68F) and that's a reasonably comfortable temperature.

So coming somewhere in the middle of those two areas of water temperature I estimate that my "cool" showers are about 17-18C(62-65F) :)

You live in Scotland though... the average high temperature is what, 70*?

Come to my apartment and take a cold shower when it's *95...

Or here in Australia, where a "hot day" is about (40C)105F :|

You step out of a cold shower in to heat like that, and it's basically served no purpose at all. It's just been cooler for the few minutes that you were IN the shower.

That's pretty insane, still making you train in that! I bet you were dying to get out of that water asap!
Seems like you've made an educated guess there...I wouldh ave no idea what to compare it with or anything....no idea what the temperature is, but I live high up in the highlands where it can get down to -20 celsius easily. I wish I had your climate, neo!

Ok fair enough....hehe, here's me thinking "Well we had a whole 69 degrees fahrenheit yesterday WHICH IS LIKE FUCKING TROPICAL WEATHER HERE! :D Where do you live?

you folks are pure mental. i mean its cold enough here without making yourelf even colder. the shower is the only time i get to be hot.

Awa' an' some fuckin hairs on yer chest pal!

It feels great when you get out the shower though man. You come over all giggly and warm, feelsgoodman.jpg.

sometimes in the shower, the boiler stops working and the water sudenly goes freezing. this has been enought to send me into a state of shock and its also agonising thers no way im deliberately subjecting myself to that for completely unproven benefits.

"A state of shock" Haha! Fair enough. Im not gonna try and make you just man up and do something that isnt even that hard with study-backed proven benefits.
You wanna be a wee pussy about it, be my guest, son :)

There's a difference between having a cold shower and the hot water running out (which happens to me aswell). The latter is surprising and you aren't prepared which is obviously gonna be unpleasant. If you bothered your arse to do a bit of reading, you'd see the proven benefits. Otherwise, stay out the thread ;)

I started off with my normal hot shower today, and slowly cranked down the temperature near the end. When I got to my breaking point, I kept my head directly under the water for about 20 seconds before it was too much. I figure I'll eventually work my way to a full minute or more.

I did feel better than normal getting out of the shower. It was great. :)

Do you have a link to this study? Granted it's probably in your links up there--I just don't feel like searching at the moment. :P

Kinda funny but my grandma told me years ago that it's "not good for you to stand under the hot water for more than four or five minutes." Something about the pressure of the water hitting your skin. Kind of off subject, but still interesting.
