Cold Showers

Free Euphoria! =D

Indeed!! It's called endorphins :)

I started off with my normal hot shower today, and slowly cranked down the temperature near the end. When I got to my breaking point, I kept my head directly under the water for about 20 seconds before it was too much. I figure I'll eventually work my way to a full minute or more.

I did feel better than normal getting out of the shower.
Awesome! Yep, it does feel pretty amazing huh :)

It is been suggested by ayurveda for my body type to either take very hot showers (as hot as I can comfortably manage), or very cold.

Having a cold shower for a few minutes with the powershower, followed by the hot shower, really feels good - this is supposed to be very good for circulation, however I've not done it consistently enough to reap the benefits other than having a quick wake up haha.

Nice thread - cold showers ain't so bad if you breathe through them right. <3

Hit the weights hard in the 22 degrees C heat and was sweating buckets. Jumping in the freeeezing cold shower after never ceases to amaze me with how good it feels :)

Seriously, who needs opiates when you can have a cold shower ? %)

Ayurveda is a fantastic ideology :)

I've been taking cold showers (starting warm, getting colder until the point where it is just cold water), and it feels great. Really energizing before a 10 hour work day.

I've also heard that hot-->cold and cold-->hot is good for circulation... those crazy Russians run around in the snow then jump or jump in icy water, then hit the sauna. Sounds good to me!

For the past week I have utilised the Hot to Cold and Cold to Hot alternations but it doesn't feel quite the same. I personally feel the most benefit form just a cold onel. However lately I've started dreading them :D Need to jst man up...once you're in it it's never that bad, its just the thought of it seems worse than it is sometimes when it's first thing in the morning!

I think I'm going to transition to purely cold showers... Going from hot to cold seems counter-productive (yet... warm).

When you get out of a hot shower all the heat from the water on your body is escaping into the air around you. When you get out of a cold shower, the opposite happens and the warmness in the air arround you is attracted to your body. It is really neat how instead of getting out of a warm shower and feeling cold/shivery, you can get out of a cold one and feel reinvigorated.

I got down to my shower's coldest setting this morning and was able to keep my body under the water for 20 seconds and my head for a full half minute. FELT COLD MAN I mean good.

I've been converted... I jumped in the shower yesterday under fully cold water- damn! My shower gradually warms up, so by the end of the shower, I turned it all the way down, like icy cold-- I lasted for about 1 second, but it felt so damn good.

I'm a believer :o

I got in a ice cold bath yesterday and managed to stay in there for 8 minutes

it was like so cold it just totally killed my crippling depression even if it was only temporarily all my feelings of shame, guilt, anger, sadness, doom n gloom vanished and all i could think about was the ice cold harshness of the water on my body.

I swear when I got out it was like having a spiritual orgasm for the mind my soul felt cleansed albeit temporarily but even still it is a good feeling to have.

^ Thats AWESOME!
That might even be too intense for my tastes.

I'm glad you found it beneficial. I just stepped out of another ice cold shower and now I'm having a roasting hot cup of coffee and it feels great =D

Long live this thread.

Would you say your mind has been......Changed?

I am so, so, so happy to read that :) It really is like a spiritual orgasm. That's a great way to put it! And I LOVE the warm, lovely amazing feeling on your skin you get as soon as you step out. Like a wave of soft natural pleasant warmth comes over you.

I was really surprised that there wasn't a thread on this already to be honest, and of course im not going to take credit for people showering in cold water, but I do feel very very glad that I made this thread as it helped me SO MUCH.

Seriously, nothing (natural) has really helped my daily social anxiety and suffering like freezing cold showers.

As an experiment, I decided to have a hot shower yesterday and tried to enjoy it as much as possible, but I actually felt so anxious all day (like I would before) and really didn't feel that great after at all. I had to jump in later at night and have a cold one and just felt instantly transformed. It really is incredible the difference it makes...for something so simple,

However, could you imagine how outraged the pharmaceutical industry would be if many more were to get wind of this unique and effective treatment??! I feel sorry for the millions who have health issues that could be treated with simple diet changes, exercise and cold showering. (Of course, Im not saying people should stop SSRI's and should do whatever helps them)

One medical practitioner here suggested that I try cold baths or hotsprings - which they have in every Japanese hotsprings - for my circulation.
I have been doing it, at least up to my waist, in 12 degree C water.
It feels frigid! But there is something good about it. I will keep trying....

I saw another pool once that was 4 degrees C. No thanks.

I can't take a hot shower now... even if it is too warm, I feel like a sloth or something. Ended my shower today while jumping up and down and gasping for air-- I love it!

The hardest part is trying to remain calm and not hyperventilate because the water is so cold it almost takes your breath away. I just tell myself to relax, close my eyes, and breathe. It works, but it takes practice to be completely calm when you have ice cold water constantly running over your body. Feels so great though once you step out. Refreshing to the max.

I tend to stay in the cold water for about 3 minutes....making sure to focus the water on every bit of my body for at least a few seconds (i.e. legs also).

How long are your cold showers fellow bluelightians?

The most benefit can be had when you stay in there long enough to actually get so used to it that you could comfortable stay in there for longer, I find. I stay in for around 5 minutes max. No real need to do it for longer. Studies have shown that you only need 20-30 seconds but I would recommend at least 60 seconds under the cold water, tbh.

It's most effective when you absolutely soak your head, back of neck and face aswell as your whole body. I find that my outer arms, back of neck and back are the most sensitive to the cold so I focus on getting them as cold as possible and soaking!

Basically, whatever feels as difficult and challenging as possible is what you should do. I think this notion can be applied to lots of things in life and it's something I live my life by...

I believe short-term challenging, arduous, difficult and exacting tasks can yield long-term absolute mental strength gains. Weightlifting, cardio exercise and cold showers are good examples of this.
