Cold meds/pain meds

Am I the only person who doesn't mix pain meds with cold/flu meds?

I'm battling walking pneumonia right now so when I went to pharmacy to pick up meds, a tech says "Lili, you're the only one I know who's paranoid about mixing meds". Lol

Am I being paranoid? Guess Brittany Murphy's death & others who died while having flu makes me paranoid.

I'm gonna assume that by "cold meds" your reffering to DXM (robitussin) in which case they should be safe to combine as long as it's not tramadol your taking. Low doses of DXM may actually potentiate your opioids as well, it never worked for me but some swear by low doses of DXM with their opioids.

I'm on Opana (oxymorphone).

Last time I mixed Mucinex with it, made me crazy...head was loopy for 3 hrs!

For starters let me say it never hurts to err on the side of caution. But as far as Brittany Murphy goes; did you see the toxicology report done as a part of her autopsy? On a show I saw quite awhile ago, they physically showed the report on camera. I think I lost count at 15-20 drugs in her system. I personally think she would be an example of a "worse case scenario". I seriously doubt what you're taking could remotely come close to what she had in her system. Bottom-line, I personally wouldn't not take a med I needed for a cold or whatever, if I needed it. You have to live your life as you see fit and it never hurts to be safe.
