For what it's worth... I'm not a big fan of coke (quite the opposite, actually), but I've had very high quallity coke on a couple of occasions. Once was in Cochabamba, Bolivia, and the stuff was allegedly >95% pure, staight from the jungle lab (and I have every reason to belive it was true). The stuff was finely powdered and slightly moist, but not pasty or clumpy, faintly yellowish and had a faint smell of diethyl ether and cocaine (yes, cocaine has a distinctive smell of its own, reminiscent of rooibos tea and dentists' offices).
I've also had the chance to sample pure pharmaceutical grade cocaine HCl (I worked in the pharma business for a few years and I had friends who got hold of the craziest things). This was a very light and fluffy powder, slightly sparkly and bright white. There was no smell of solvents, and the peculiar cocaine smell was very noticeable, I would say overpowering.
I honestly believe that you can smell whether coke is good. Cocaine has a distinctive smell which is very different from cutting agents. It might take some getting used to, though.
In spite of having had good coke on several occasions, I can't really say I like it. It doesn't give me a whole lot, apart from a numb nose, throat and front teeth, a tight chest (get that bloody elephant off of my ribcage kind of feeling), a slight euphoria, restlessness and, if I overdo it, pretty bad anxiety, which fortunately subsides very quickly. I'll have amphetamines over coke any day, but that's me.
