Coke. Where does the “gasoline” taste chemically come from?

Where does this taste of gasoline come from? Is it a sign if quality coke or irrelevant? What are the chemicals or chemical-interactions that creates such a taste. Some people like it as a sign of a good thing while I think I get nauseous.

From the solvent used, which can include kerosene and gasoline. It is certainly an impurity in the sense that pure cocaine does not smell like gasoline. A strong solvent odor could mean however that the impure state it left south america in has not been adulterated much further. It is pretty typical, i never minded it, but I enjoy the smell.

Seconded. It's typically from the solvent used in the manufacturing process. Heroin often smells like vinegar and this is because it is Morphine treated with Acetic Acid/Anhydride.
