Are you referring to quantum entanglement? My understanding is that setting up a double slit experiment that observes the presence of a particle through its phase state can result in a situation in which either one of two particles could be present, which collapses their wave function and causes them to share a state of phase from then on. I think that's how the "teleportation" alluded to earlier in this thread was performed as well.

It doesn't have to mean faster than light communication, there are any number of alternate theories, not the least of which is a holographic theory of the universe.
