How long after the last dose, does it take for codeine withdrawals to kick in please?

all depends really.

is this the first time you'll be experiencing withdrawals from opiates?

how long have you been using codeine for?

what doses have you been using?
 
I've never experienced withdrawals from opiates before.
I have been using codeine and dihydrocodeine for a year and a half, but not continuously.
I take them for five days and then I don't take any for a day.
On the day I don't take any, I don't experience withdrawals.
Doses = equivalent of 240mg codeine in a day.

Well given the half life is ~3hours I would say you should start feeling something at the 12-18hour mark...

If you dont get withdrawals consider yourself lucky.
 
Hi.

It's been about 22hrs since my last opiate and I don't feel withdrawals from it.
I raised the thread because someone I know mentioned that I was addicted, and the withdrawals would come after the 24hr mark. They said that they never felt any withdrawals from codeine till after the second day off.

thats because codeine wd's are SOO light that you basically wont feel anything but maybe joints hurting a bit if ur in the place where its winter right now.
if you are psychologically in a good place, then this is a total cakewalk.
i would actually advise You to not even think about it anymore if You are 1 day in already. codeine wd is done in 3 days. i know. i used 3 x 480mg every day for a year and 8-9 months.
what dose are you wd'ing from? i assume youve been taking it every day for some time?
 
acute w/d from codeine generally begins within six hours of the last dose
and can be experienced for up to a week-
22 hours with no symptoms pretty much indicates you have
little to worry about.

My dose is 240mg codeine, or 120mg dihydrocodeine.

Why is it that for so many people, the withdrawals don't kick in for 24-48hrs?
 
Differences in personal metabolisms, and as said before, the withdrawal can be so light that you don't even notice it until it's getting closer to the "peak."
 
Thanks. You sound extrememly lucky to have such mild withdrawals. I've heard others stop and think theyr'e ok, and then feel like death two days after stopping. I am scared I will not be as lucky as you.
 
I'm dope sick right now, actually. Codeine has never done a thing for me, I think I may not be able to metabolize it. Went from ~100mg methadone / day to whatever a few bags of Milwaukee ''dope'' were per day, to 8 days sober, to in the hospital for 8 days on 1mg / IV morphine / 2 hrs + 10mg Hydrocodone / 2 hrs, to sober again since November 27th.
 
Nose still runs dramatically, eyes still drop tears randomly, digestive trackt is still an absolute mess. I'm lucky to get <= 2 hours of sleep a day. I feel almost like I'm coming down off of amphetamines, all day, everyday, at this point. I cannot wait for it to stop.

Go to the drug store and get some diphenhydramine (gravol).

It occupies the same receptor as codeine does. Also loperamide will help
 
I mean no offense, but DPH does NOT at all occupy the MU/Delta/(and thank God) Kappa Receptor. Lopermide is a miracle drug IMO, but I also feel it may be part of the reason my bowels are still liquid. I have no idea why my withdrawal is lasting so long, but perhaps I just have horrid genetics.

EDIT: I used to IV 100 - 125mg Diphenhydramine (DPH) nightly to get to bed. One day it made me feel the exact same way I did when I overdosed on cocaine and had my first midocardial infarction (pardon my spelling). But when you take somthing and you feel like you're dying... one typically stops. So I have, with DPH. (also with the opiates, but I still feel like I'm dying :D)
 
DPH obviously works on H(istamine receptors (edit)), but I also believe it works on D or 5-HT to create a tiny bit more enjoyable experience. (Rats perhaps inject it preferablly) But so far as I'm aware, it is not at all an opioid. It can help, but it can also lead to an increase in RLS (See: Dopamine) which can be a ravager through withdrawals. Tread with caution.

Edit, the RLS increase could be through any means, not necessarily dopamine. I am no expert to claim otherwise. But for some reason, I'm thinking RLS has to do with dopamine.

^i agree it's likely dopamine but then again stim users don't experience restless legs in withdrawal or after use. Either way, DPH can definitely make you more restless so be careful with it. I'd rather just use a z drug to knock me out but if u have nothing else then maybe DPH could help.

i've used codeine so much (for years on and off) and never really had a withdrawal from it.

i think loperamide is an amazing help for withdrawal, it does more for me than just fix my stomach and bowel issues, it relieves the pain and the RLS, for me at least.
 
Consider antipsychotics - I believe they antagonize dopamine, seratonin, and histamine. (Serequel for example) These are known to increase RLS by my understanding.
