Codeine-will it work? using SSRI

Fluoxetine is listed as a major inhibitor of CYP2D6. It's up to you really, do you want to try and get the high anyway which may be decreased, or just wait until the fluoxetine kicks in?

Apologies for the über-bump, but I had this information right in front of me and figured it might help someone that is searching for it.

I've experimented with fluoxetine(Prozac) in combination with several drugs, including codeine (in this instance 60 and 80mg doses respectively). At T+ 3:00 between 370 and 400mg CWE codeine was ingested on an otherwise empty stomach. Onset was slightly delayed, peak somewhat nullified, histamine reaction seemed normal. Remember fluoxetine is also a mild inhibitor of CYP3A4.

Does anyone have information or experience with regards to rifampicin + codeine, or carbamazepine + codeine?

From the 2008 Australian Medicines Handbook:

rifampicin + codeine : Rifampicin may increase metabolism of codeine (may also increase that of morphine); may decrease its concentration and analgesic effect; monitor for inadequate analgesia and use an alternative analgesic if this occurs.

No info on carbamazepine + codeine, however it does list an interaction for fluoxetine + carbamazepine:

Fluoxetine may increase concentration of carbamazepine and risk of toxicity; monitor carbamazepine concentration and for adverse effects; decrease carbamazepine dose if necessary.
