Codeine w/Promethazine vs OTC Codeine Linctus

Ive seen that the codeine w/prometh contains 5ml/10mg codeine and the OTC codeine linctus i drink has 5/15mg codeine in it. I know the purpose of prometh as an anti-histamine and adds a bit more sedation so i take an anti-hostamine(1st gen) to give me the same effect. Which syrup is more potent? A 4oz of purple or a 4oz of linctus with an anti-histamine? Keep in mind that there is more codeine in the linctus. I feel as tho the linctus is better since its cheaper and has more codeine in it.

If you're taking an antihistamine with codeine linctus (the one without promethazine) and the linctus has more codeine per dosage unit then the linctus is more potent. In higher doses the promethazine pretty much ruins the codeine high and it becomes more of an antihistamine high vs. just an opiate high.

You're probably better off using the codeine linctus just because you'll be able to control your codeine dose independently of the antihistamine dose vs. having to consume more promethazine if you want to consume more codeine.

1st gen antihistamines will block (to some degree) the enzyme cpy 2d6, this is the enzyme that converts codeine to morphine in your body. Now codeine itself has a metabolite c6g and likely others that are also responsible for its effects, hence the reason you still get high with codeine and an antihistamine, however you may be losing out on ~10% (depending on the person and AH) of the codeine that is converted to morphine in combining an antihistamine at the same time as the codeine.

If you want to take an AH with codeine then your best bet is to take it after the codeine has absorbed, likely an hour later would be a better idea. So in that regard, the codeine linctus along with say diphenhydramine, hydroxyzine, promethazine or what have you an hour later will lead to greater analgesia and a better high if that's what you're after.

Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong. As well, this only applies to opioids that use CYP 2D6 to convert to a more potent opioid in the body ie. you can use hydroxyzine or promethazine with hydromorphone and it won't affect how high you get, other than giving you the typical antihistamine effects and will actually prolong/potentiate the high as CYP 2D6 is responsible for also breaking down opioids in the body. I'm sure other enzymes are involved but i'm not a pharmacologist by any means.

No I prefer to not experience the histamine release from the codeine so I take the AH before I consume.. But you're saying after an hour of being high in the codeine to take the AH?

well try to time it so the AH hits after the codeine does, most AH take about an 1 hour to hit, codeine usually takes 30-45 minutes. If you get the timing right you won't get itchy as shit and won't dampen your high possibly. Diphenhydramine isn't a massive cyp 2d6 inhibitor so i don't know how much of a concern it is with that but hydroxyzine/promethazine are pretty strong inhibitors IIRC.

I would take codeine linctus, then 20 minutes later take the AH, but it depends on your body and how fast things hit you.

Codeine is one of my most favorite opiates, over the counter? where would that be lol, my liking for the drug came when i got t4's, took 4 of those 60x4= 240mg a slight bit too much, but the euphoria caught me more than oxy's which i'm not a giant fan of. But i did have a prescription for hydroxyzine which people always recommend to potentiate however i haven't done opiates but a few ones in a quiet while, but a low dose of hydroxyzine can help with the nausea and itchyness if you get any.

Cool man you said that in like 5 threads I've seen all today. You just going around in all the threads sayin you like the drugs, then make one of your own asking if they're bad for you in relation to another one, and get mad at the first person to give you an accurate answer.

I personally don't like codeine more than any other opiate. It's one of my least favorite opiates, but really I know this is off topic but I like oxycodone too, but oh gosh I'm rambling a little bit (rotflol a little, more like a lot). But codeine on the other hand is a good drug if you have mild to moderate pain so I kind of sort of think in my opinion it's a good drug for that, though. Sorry I'm being kind of descriptive here like we can call it really descriptive. I'm just excited. It's so silly isn't it. But I'm rambling again.

Oh and sorry OP I need to give you some advice to haha lets seeee.. Ok I know now. A good way to put this very descriptively though would be to say the one without the extra liver enzyme inhibition is maybe the best bet for you in your case of wanting to be gettin higher. And safer for your body.

^you may be onto something there... lol how much does morphine really account for the high anyway? if it was a big difference why would so many people drink codeine + promethazine syrup like it's a heroin cocktail or something?

As a long time codeine user, i generally only use DPH with it to avoid inhibiting CYP 2D6 as much as possible and time it out so that it hits just after the codeine does to reduce the risk of inhibiting CYP 2D6 before codeine has a chance to metabolize into morphine. TBH i can never really tell the difference whether i take DPH first or not but do notice a difference with hydroxyzine in particular.
