Codeine Question?

Hey guys a mate of mine had a funny codeine experience the other day.

A little background first . . he has a BIG codeine tolerance as opiates are his only drug and can't get his hands on anything harder.
So usually does a CWE once a week ( maybe twice) and over a couple of years has his dose up to about 1-1.5 grams to get any sort of high.

The other day he was out drinking and the next day had a fairly decent hangover so decided to use some codeine before work to numb the pain and sickness.
( useing codeine properly, as medicine, not to get high) He figured as his rec dose was soo high he would need to use a decent amount for medical purposes, so took three comforals ( 30/500), so 90 mg codeine.

And then out of nowhere got a great buzz from it and loved the first 4 hours of work. Needles to say the hangover was obliterated.

So his question, simply, does a big hangover potentiate a codeine high somehow??! Has anyone ever had a similar experience to him before.
Cheeeers guys :)

alcohol is a cyp2d6 liver enzyme inducer. I believe this means it promotes the transformation of codeine into morphine by the liver, thus making codeine more powerful. If this is true it is still a terrible idea to take these two together as you will be taking the fast track to liver failure.

In addition to the above, another factor could be that the hangover relief contributed to his euphoria. For example, if I take a threshold dose of an opioid when not in withdrawal I won't feel it. If I'm in withdrawal and I take that same dose, although I'm only being brought to baseline, since I'm no longer sick I achieve a greater feeling of euphoria than normal, relief you may call it. Going from feeling terrible to threshold feels alot better than going from baseline to threshold.

1000 mg - 1500 mg is a lot of Codeine. In the past I was doing silly doses of between 600 mg - 1200 mg, thankfully I haven't taken any Opiates since 6th December 2014 :) Although I do fear I may have caused permanent damage to the hearing in my left ear :(
