Codeine phosphate precipitation

How do you make codeine phosphate precipitate from a whatery solution or from alchool? Is it even possible?
I can't find anything about it on the web.

You could try reacting with a strong base to deprotonate the phenolic hydroxyl, its a lot more acidic than a standard alcohol.

I've read in several places that this is part of the process of obtaining raw morphine from plants.
As you can see, I know very little chemistry - hope I'll have time to start correcting that soon...

I believe codeine phosphate is a mildly acidic salt...just add a base to the mixture and the codeine base should precipitate out once the acid has been neutralized..should be just like freebasing.

Hell, I allmost can't believe it's that simple...
What about caffeine? This would be a very nice method to separate the two if the acidity needed for each to precipitate is slightly different.
Gonna try it soon to see what it yealds!

I've tried the charcoal method a number of times with mixed results. Both by passing the clear CWE thru active charcoal pressed between two coffee filters- took a very long time - and by simply adding some charcoal to the sollution and then filtering it.
Allmost every time it took out too litle coffeine and too much codeine.
About the whater reduction method that colors mentions in his link: acording to wikipedia caffeine's solubility is about 22g/100ml so I don't see how it would work. Probably very dependant on the form caffeine is in (tabs I use contain anhydrious caffeine 23 mg/pill)
