Codeine & online pharmacies - Is there an algorithm/guidelines?

Hi guys,

As most of the Brit's in here will know some codeine products are legal to buy/order OTC and online (8/500mg tablets + cough linctus) in England. My question is does anyone know whether online pharmacies keep some sort of database on when 'suspect' items are purchased (I'd imagine they would), or alternatively if they use an algorithm to check if the time has been < 2months etc...?

In a shop environment I'd assume this is down to personal judgement, however online the only thing they have to go off is statistics. Basically: is there an industry standard timeframe or similar measured factor?

Obviously please don't be specific about companies as that would amount to sourcing!

Interesting question, and one I'd quite like to know the answer to. In my experience, I've had no problems ordering a bottle or two a week from the same pharmacy; they give you a questionnaire re: symptoms and then bang it off to you.

Of course they also think I'm a 65 year old woman so...

Obviously everywhere varies but yeah I'd like to know if they do keep track to some extent

I can answer this.

I regularly buy linctus from three online pharmacies. The first will send two bottles per order, as often as I ask them to, sometimes four or five times per week (I have a problem :(). the second pharmacy is exactly the same. The third place will only sell two bottles per month. Order any sooner and they'll cancel the order and refund your card.

Wow! That is loads more frequent than I expected. Definitely just going to stick to the syrup now, sod tramping all over town buying boxes and tedious cwe's. Cheers guys :p

Just a reminder by your friendly neighbourhood mod to keep this to discussion of the technicalities and not mention how to attain such lovely sugary goodness; it's legal but it's still drugs.

Cheers my lovelies <3

Ah crap, I never even thought that I would be breaking the no sourcing rule with my comment up there. I saw Sam's message and couldn't for the life of me work out what he was on about. I'm feeling very stupid right now :D

Happens to the best of us. Sometimes it's difficult to resist passing over some good sauce.

Happened to me once too. It's easy to forget that high street names are just as saucy as RC vendors.

I believe there are 3 reputable online UK chemists selling linctus, each with a two per fortnight rule; if they share information on customer orders, it would surprise me a lot; I'm sure alternating your suppliers would raise no red flags, so long as you order well over the 2 week cut-off. These bottles are pretty much extinct in high street right now of course, bar the odd independent, and we all know the police mentality of most chemists these days-I wonder if they'll script the yellow linctus after all these years. It's amazing this isn't a script only item by now....15mg in a teaspoon, after all!

You lot prob know this already, but there are more "goodies", most of them available from your local chemist; Gee's linctus, containing a fair slug of tincture of opium, J Collis Browne Mixture, a solild 20mg morphine per bottle. And of course Kaolin and Morphine, not worth a look; trace amounts only and it tastes like chalk. Course, all of this stuff contains potentially harmful shite in there.

Sorry if this breaks rules here, (I didn't name sources) but buying copious amounts of this stuff was my "thing" back in the day.

Oh, and obviously co-codamol, but far too much work for far too little codeine. BTW is there any use for pholcodeine whatsoever? Then there's lope, but I won't open that can of worms...
