hey,i have been using co-codamol 500/30 mg's 2 weeks a month for 7 months now and have been a frequent reader of this site, but i always read about people taking 400-600 mg's of codeine at a time, i only have to take about 75-90 mg to get high and if i push over 90mg in one dose i get really sick and react badly and am acting under the presumption that im infact overdosing at such a low dose, what are the odds that i am hyper sensitive???? and how can i find out more about why the hell my body's such a pussy when it comes to this.

^ You could be sensitive. People who take larger doses like the ones you mention generally have a tolerance. Do you get much of a histamine reaction as well? For e.g., itching, redness, etc...

Also, you can try taking an antihistamine with the codeine to reduce the nausea if it is a problem. Something like promethazine mixes well with codeine. :)

no i dont really get any itching, and the nausea is an odd one, in a wierd way ive become kind of fond if it....its rather odd, it just sedates me and makes me feel very comfortable to be where i am both mentally and physically....really i just am annoyed because i feel like im missing out becuase i cant take large doses, well i can hardly take small doses and am unsure now if im feeling the full effects.

^ It sounds like you are enjoying it, if you try to take a higher dose and you can't handle it you will just feel really sick instead of the relaxation you want.

If you want to up the dose, try adding an antihistamine to reduce the nausea then bump it up a bit, maybe to 120mg, 150? At worst you will vomit and feel sick though.

It takes time for a lot of people to get used to high doses of opiates, many heroin users when they first start smoking on the foil throw up all the time, takes awhile for the body to adjust sum times.

if you tell us how long you have been using codeine and your history using opiates and at what doses and frequency, we can better answer your question.

but if you really have no history with opiates and just started taking the codeine, then you probably just havent been using enough opiates(especially strong ones) to increase your dose much. the lower dose sounds like its prefect for you to get a nice high, and i think you should feel lucky for that cuz its cheaper that way. also, i bet your tolerance will increase in time and you will be taking higher doses just like all those people you read about. just enjoy your low tolerance now.....trust me.

...but still, some more info on your opiate use history would be helpfull.

As long as you enjoy it that's what it's all about. Trust me you're not missing anything in the 500-600mg range. My tolerance has gone way past 500mg, but if I take any more than that I get only an increase in the side effects (histamine release etc) and no increase in desired effects.

Where abouts are you from Corin, if you don't mind me asking? Unfortunately, promethazine is hard to get hold of here in the UK. From what I gather it is available OTC under the supervision of a pharmacist, but trying to persuade them to give it to you is like drawing blood from a stone, I have yet to be successful :(. All other antihistamines I have tried just completely kill the high for me (I've tried ones which both are and aren't listed on the CYP450 chart of inhibitors/inducers).

But anyway, as jamesBrown said, your tolerance will likely increase over time, if very slowly (not a bad thing!). Enjoy it whilst you can, I wish I could just take a few pills to get high instead of having to wait until no one is around and do a CWE! :)

He said clearly in the OP how long he's been using them, at what doses and how frequently. (75-90mg 2 weeks per month for 7 months)

Anyway, these dosing/effects questions are better suited for BDD.

i live in south east uk, so yh getting anti histamines will be a pain, sounds like it's definatley worth a try though reducing the nausea can only be a good thing, wow though it sounds as if this is usual to low tolerance opiate users, i just assumed that i was a fast metabolizier because i all ways read a good first time dose is around 120mg and if i took that i'd just feel awful. also how on earth do you get rid of those allmighty headaches you get without taking more codeine or paracetamol?

Its a GOOD thing that low doses get you high! There is nothing good about having to increase your dose of an opiate. It just leads to excessive tolerance sooner or later and then addiction. Its easy to get addicted to opiates but if you still can get high at 90mg, that's great. Your not missing out on high doses. People only take them because they can't get high anymore at their current dose.
