Codeine Extraction

Hey guys this is probably a dumb thing to ask so please no flaming :)

If i was to do a CWE and evaporate the liquid would i be left with pureish codeine powder that can be placed into capsules?to avoid the taste. Or would the codeine be destroyed in the evaporation process?
If this method wont work could somone please explane to me how to do it????

AFAIK, it would be at least problematic - codeine breaks down into inactive compounds at 50 (or even less) Celsius degrees.
Maybe try to do extraction with less water, so you can swallow all at once?
Once the liquid just couldn't pass my mouth, so I put it into 0,5l od Mountain Dew, worked somehow.
Or eat 1 diphenhydramine tablet - no matter how bad it will taste, you won't puke ; )
 
well i can take it fine infact i've growin to love the taste :) but its my mates there picky buggers they cant handle the taste and it would be alot easyer to carry capsules with me rather than liquid IMO
 
also in a meth induced convo i had last night with a mate if we could get it into powder or crystle form we could sell it.....and trust me people would buy it codeine is MUCH MUCH better than whats available in my town BZP PMMA or meth and im sick of meth and taking birdworming tablets to get a buzz is not my cup of tea

Also if i was to evap it off in a cool area (below 50oC) with a fan what would i be left powderd or crystled codeine?

and whats AFAIK stand for lol :)

If you are using enough water so it can't be swallowed in one you are greatly increasing the amount of APAP in the end product I tend to end up with about a quater of glass 50 - 60ml. It is also a hell of alot easier to wash down with a still juice drink I prefer cranberry juice.

If you are hellbent on evaping I would do it over the course of a few days in a dark cool area which will leave you with a powder consisting of your codeine, binding agents and a (hopefully) small amount of APAP.
 
very low heat, 1-9 scale 1-2 would be ideal. leave 30ml of CWE solution on a porcelain plate and wait 10 mins or until there is still just a touch of wetness to the mixture waiting to long will burn it and also make it harder to remove. not sure how much you will lose but it will still get you high


you can purify it more by adding a few mls of water and filtering it through a cotton +eyedropper/syringe.

I've never seen this verified. I know it's "common knowledge" but I've searched through many legit sources and just can't find it anywhere. I agree with the fact that in solution it is susceptible to damage from light and obviously there is a temperature where it will noticably break down (the higher the worse). I've seen no evidence it is below 100C though.

The most effective way to get codeine out is to do multpile recrystalizations. The codeine is actually caught up in APAP and binder groups and fair amount won't dissolve in a standard CWE.

What you need to do is put it into enough hot water to get ALL solids to dissovle. Then cool it down so everything precipitates out, heat it up until everything dissolve, and finally cool it back down so it precipitates out again. Repeat this several times. Finally evaporate down to as small a volume as possible (just enough to fully dissolve all your codeine) and filter before evaporating for the codeine salt.

To get extremely pure codeine (usually just for future synths) you need to do a chemical extraction instead of evaporating at the end.
Add acid to the solution (makes codeine insoluble in nonpolar) and wash with a nonpolar to remove caffiene and crap.
Basify the solution so the codeine base precipitates out.
Then wash with a nonpolar solvent to collect the codeine base.
Evap for the codeine base or add acid to make a salt and wash with a polar to collect the codeine salt.

Woo heavy. My question is this though - once a person has crushed, mixed, cooled and filtered, given that, under ordinary circumstances, most people here would at that stage just drink the remaining solution, I don't see how evaporating it to a solid/base could produce an end product with more APAP or less codeine than would be obtained just by drinking the solution.

I for example could try clumsily to follow the above steps, but I know absolutely nothing about science or chemistry, so if something went wrong, I either wouldn't notice or would not know how to remedy the fault.
 
^You are correct. Just drinking the solution is the best way to get the most codeine in your system.

The advantage of a chemical extraction is to get pure solid codeine. This can then be used in synthesis of other drugs (tsk tsk) or just evaporating, as the OP originally suggested, for dealing/transporting/storing codeine (which is more fragile in solution).

That being said a straight CWE does not get as much codeine into solution as repeated crystalizing/dissolve i.e. cooling/heating it (from what I've heard).

alright thanks alot mate you explaned heaps :) i've got my acids (lye) and my nonpolar solvent (lighter fluid) from failed DMT extractions (dident fuck up the synthis was using the wrong bark) so i've got a bit of backyard chemistry experience....i might give it a shot this weekend.....i've heard theres somthing you can add to codeine to make it much much stronger...like a crude version of smack.What is this?also could i add it to the mixture then do the synthis would resulting product me stronger???
 
Lye (sodium hydroxide) is actually an alkaline substance. I've never tried it with naptha (just chloroform and dichloromethane) but it would likely work. You'll also want to use the same acid as the codeine salt (likely phosphoric?) or none at all if your just using a few pills.

I don't know what you could add to codeine to make it stronger besides purely complimentary effects. For example when codeine combines with the sedating effects of promethazine in purple drank.

Also I don't know what you mean by do the synth. All I've outlined is a way of isolating codeine base. BL doesn't let us discuss cooking it to something better.

edit: I just had a remote memory of something about NaOH not mixing well with APAP so you might want to use some calcium carbonate or something instead.
