Opioids Codeine/DXM as an antidiuretic?

I have notice that during an opiate (specifically, more so with codeine) I have found that I have trouble urinating! This typically happens when I use dextromethorphan to potentiate the codeine - so I'm a little unsure if it's the opiate or the antitussive which is causing this effect. This also more often then not occurs well into the next day or so, well after the "high" has subsided!

So, I guess my question is, who else has experienced this? Dosage? Time-frame? Which opiate? Potentiated? etc...

Also, references to possibly the pharmacodynamics as to an explanation of why.

Opiates cause you to retain water, and this is a natural side effect of opiates.

I don't have a problem with using buprenorphine and urinating, however for other people, it can become quite problematic.

Yeah I have antadotical evidence from speaking to a few people, but I haven't really found any good sources/references in the literature yet!

I do not, and am about to go to sleep. However it is just a natural effect of opiates; another class of substances which encourages water retention would be anabolic steroids.

If there is more I can remember I will share later, but for now this is all I can remember.

Obviously with different classes of drugs like stimulants, you will experience the opposite. But beyond this, someone else will have to share more.

If you are looking for a natural way to counteract the water retention, then caffeine might be a good idea. However that is up to you of course.
