Codeine and CWE Megathread - The long awaited!

^ I am curious what pain you describe. The last year or so I seem to suffer gastric reflux a hell of a lot, but I am also a pretty heavy daily drinker. I have sort of tied my gastric reflux to CWE but not sure if its paranoia at this point, I know that past carelessness has caused acid reflux as a direct consequence of over consumption of NSAIDs but perhaps the gastric reflux I am still experiencing is due to drinking and not my fairly occassional use of stricly para forumlation CWE?

Well I"m not sure I can adequately gauge where the pain really is. For instance when I used to drink a glass of water the morning after a CWE night [before I started nexium and eating beforehand] the pain appeared to be in the stomach and lower down the GI, but if water can't get any further than the stomach shortly after drinking then maybe it is just gastric reflux and the pain is from the stomach but not higher up.

I have problems swallowing food sometimes, and it very slowly and painfully makes it's way down the food pipe into the stomach, and I can definitely sense where the pain is when that happens.

Does anyone else regularly consume poppy seed tea these days? Like the Hoyts brand from Coles etc?

^^no, but always on the look out for bulk poppy seeds, as i have had success with them in the past (not Hoyts). When they do work, i prefer them over codeine.

Have a packet of panafen +, do i need to break the pills up or just chuck them in a glass of cold water?

Does anyone else reckon they've changed the formulation of panafen so it doesn't dissolve as quickly? I remember when it used to look like cotton wool almost as soon as you dropped the pills in the water, but now it seems to take a bit longer.

I haven't noticed much of a difference, but I usually let mine sit for a while just to be sure, so I could be wrong.

I ain't noticed a diff with panafen but I tend to use para pills these days, not ibu ones.

Got me some codeine to work with tonight:) Gonna suss out if the zantac had an impact on some of my recent highs.

I have 600mg + that Im saving for tomorrow night. Also 600g of some really blue looking poppy seeds that I obtained from an obscure source :) Just wish I had some fucking va-li-um.

Now just to get the majority of this 2000 word critical review hacked out then I can relax for the weekend. Not many words I know but crit reviews they need you to reference like a mother fucka. And research takes time and effort.

^ What are you studying?

My ex is doing an Arts degree filled with bullshit English and photography exams and essays. I hate that stuff, much prefer the hard sciences. :)

^ Haha, I did an arts degree but my major geography is both a science and arts degree. The real humanities side of an arts degree is full of so much wankyness and it's fairly well useless as I'm finding out, even despite having a science major :\

I don't envy you pinkanga, the research part is a bitch, esp flicking through 15 different sources to find that one sentence you need to quote.

And back on topic, I'm on codeine and it's noiceee :)

B Science with a psychology major. I usually dont mind writing its just getting yourself into that right headspace. Crit reviews are different though and you cant just let your detach and let the words flow free. Just telling myself I dont care about anything other than passing though :). Making this a little easier. (usually get at least a D-HD for papers).

Anyway, back on topic. Codeine, opiates, yay!

Sorry if this has already been addressed but does reconstituted grapefruit juice still have the potenitating effects with Codiene? Also when filtering with dress shirts is it recomended or not recomended to slight squeeze the shirt to get the subtance out? And how long should filtering take for say 24 discolved tabs?

Also I'm a little confused about the opitate itch thing? If I've attempted to filter 240mg of Codiene should I feel some sort of itching. If I'm not am I doing something wrong or are my doses too low?

everyone's different, i usually get really itchy off codeine, but more of a histamine reaction type itch rather than a true opiate itch.

Codeine itch is just awesome but yeah ur right its more from the histamine release then from the opiate itself. None the less its still nice :) I actually get twice as itchy off it than any other opiate.

Speaking of the itch...

I've used codeine as a weekend standard for the last five or so years and never experienced the itch. In fact, I've never experienced the itch with any opiate. Depending on the type of opiate and amount, I usually get an uncomfortable pressure in the stomach (not nausea), a constricted throat (sometimes makes eating uncomfortable as previously noted by a poster), and moderate dehydration. All that, but no itch. Taking a little DXM, diphenhydramine, or a Travacalm before dosing takes care of the uncomfortable stomach for me no probs. Drinking water throughout lessens the dehydration. Not sure what can be done about the throat thing.

Anyway, imagine my surprise when I did the usual routine yesterday evening (dissolved 45 generic tabs, cooled, filtered, popped a diphenhydramine in anticipation) and then, about 15 minutes after drinking the CWE liquid, I turned bright fucking red all over the chest and back and up the sides of my neck, and had the worst attack of the itchies in my life. I was ready to pull my skin off, it was so intense. I was clawing my neck and head and using whatever I could find to scratch my back ( a hairbrush was the best) and it kept getting worse.

About 30 minutes in, my skin was scarlet and had many little bumps on it and felt very hot. Just like I'd been bitten by 50 mosquitoes all at once.

Clearly, I had a reaction to something. And if it wasn't related to the CWE then it's a pretty spectacular coincidence. Is it possible there was some binder or tablet filler that produced this reaction? I have used that brand of tablet before and not experienced anything like that. In fact, the only time I have experienced anything like that was when I took large amounts of DXM - I got the same skin rash but it wasn't itchy. It was most unexpected.

^ Codeine is well known for producing a reaction almost like an allergy in many people; it's strange you've managed to avoid it until now. Compared to other opioids, particularly the synthetics, codeine is much more effective at causing degranulation of mast cells (leading to the typical histamine reaction) but also causing activation of chemokine production in mast cells. Chemokines are small cytokines that are involved in inflammatory responses, such as allergies.

Do you normally suffer hayfever or other allergies? Have you been taking any medications you hadn't been taking previously? Switch up the tablets you used? There are many factors that could have led to an increased histamine response to the codeine.

Scratching the fuck outta that codeine itch when you got it bad can be orgasmic.

Weird.
