I'm new to the forum...i use coke close to everday for about 6 years now, and usually drink while using. Does anyone else get angry, or just snap and freak out at stuff (i.e. boyfriend)... what causes this???

Anger, impulsiveness and violence often go hand in hand with cocaine dependence. If you are noticing these feelings while sober, you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Agitation, depression, anger, hallucinations and fatigue are all common symptoms that could last for quite awhile after stopping. Anger Management courses are often a part of the treatment for those recovering from dependency issues.

What causes it?
Chronic use of a drug changes the way your brain is wired. Long term imbalances in neurotransmitters like dopamine serotonin and norepinephrine can cause your brain to behave in strange and frightening ways.

Here is a good link detailing how cocaine works in your brain as well as was what happens over the long term: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC181074/

If you find yourself behaving in ways that hurt yourself or others, give some thought to making changes to your everyday habits. Given time away from Cocaine and Alcohol your brain will do its best to return itself to a normal state.

Damn i've always wondered how some of you people afford such an expensive habit. Either way, i'm not surprised from how long you've been using cocaine daily that you experience these symptoms. If you don't mind me asking what is your sleep quality like, and do you ever get any nosebleeds? I would do my best NOT to get angry and snap out, but i would tell you that you need to come off of it before you feel better.

Thanks! I suspected that is what it is...so...i have been a week without, and just try each day to not think about....but unfortuntely I think about it every day... just taking a day at a time I suppose. :)

I know loads of people like it on Coke. I'm not like it personally. But that's why half of the fights probably kick off in clubs!

Congratulations on staying clean for a week, you're doing well!

Oh boy yeah can coke do that to you. I've first handedly experienced it, and many of my friends too. Drinking especially triggers my anger while I take coke - but I'm an angry drunk to start wit h anyway. It's due down regulation of dopamine receptors as previously mentioned and the same to serotonin.

It's obviously tough quitting any substance...I'm in no way trying to push religion on you...but if you pray every time your mind wanders to the drug, you will find yourself able to ignore impulses better...And what bad can come from praying;)

^ Sound advice indeed. If not prayer for your way of thinking try mediation techniques. Also seeking out some cognitive behavioral therapy could also do a world of good.
