In about a month or so, im going for my first ever root canal.

im expecting some severe pain, during mostly the procedure?

1.i was just wondering if it would be ok to rub some coke on my gums(mainly in the area around that tooth) just before they started working on me?

-
also
my brother got one not too long ago and they prescribed him vicodin and either valium or xanax. i cant remember which one, im pretty sure it was valium tho.

2.i have no opiate experience and was wondering how much vicodin i would want to take for a recreational dose?

3.and the same for valium?

thanks all.

I imagine that they will give you some pain relief... but the coke wont have the penetrating power to numb the area that will hurt, unless you willing to inject it into your trigeminal nerve (which you REALLY shouldn't try).

If you're interested in recreational doses, look up www.erowid.org

The dentist will give you some anaesthetic - I'm sure of that! :)

Anyway, root canal treatment isn't that painful to be honest.

^He said he had no opiate experience. Start with 15-22.5mg and work your way up is what I would advise. Some people will become very nauseous after their first 2 vicodins and regret they ever went past 15mg. Depends on the body.

root canals really aren't too bad. your whole mouth will be numb from the novocaine. a vicodin or two is not going to hurt, but it's probably not necessary either.

haha tell him that you've got your own supply of novocaine and ask him if you can reapply every 30 min or so

when i got a root canal, i dont know what medicine they gave me a shot of to numb me, but whatever it was, i felt no pain what so ever and i couldnt even tell i was numb. I never experienced any pain from the root canal at all, not even in the days following the procedure. Maybe they will give you the same thing.

Wow... advanced..? hehehe

The novicane they give you should be all that you need. If you feel pain durring the procedure ask for more.

From what i understand Cocain And Novicane should NOT be mixed. Dunno why, Just have been to the dentist recently to get a wisdom tooth pulled, knowing there was gonna be alot of pain involved i got all fucked up before i went in, Took a few Valium and smoked a blunt of nug to the head. When i got into the dentists chair it was more than obvious that i was all kinds of fucked up (Bloodshot eyes, and way too mellow) so he asked me if i was self medicating (Yes.), and then asked if any coke was involved, because if i was on coke he wouldn't be able to give me Novocane. No explination, but it doesn't take a Rocket scientist to put 2 and 2 together and figure out that Novo"Cane" and Coke have "cain" in the name, and it's pretty obvious that coke Numbs just like Novocain numbs, Just not as long. So what i'm thinking is perhaps Coke and novocain have something in common in their chemistry, and it might be a slight risk of O.D.'n if mixed. OR ! Perhaps they just fall into the catagory of Drugs that wern't ment to be mixed because of fatality risks. But either way, i'm not gonna fuck with the 2 at the same time.

Damn i hate the Dentist

thats a good point^^

your better off just doin what normal people do, ask for laughin fas or somethin

Root Canals really aren't that bad. I've had a couple over the past year or so and the most painful part is the cost. They give you a shot of novacaine or lidocaine and you don't feel a thing. If it's an especially bad one you could have some pain afterwards. My dentist generally rescribes me 24 Vicodin ES after a root canal. Of course I fill the script and take them all, but I really don't need them. I wouldn't worry about it. If you're anxious about visiing the dentist chair like I am, a couple of valium or xanax will help relax you. There's all this hysteria about root canals but they really don't hurt.

Honestly, if somebody has NO opiate/opioid tolerance, 15mg of hydrocodone is MORE than enough to provide a STRONG analgesic effect, and nod.

If somebody has NEVER tried hydrocodone before, I would recommend they start with NO MORE than 5mg, and wait at least 2 hours (and try lying completely still in a quiet place) before deciding that it wasn't enough. This isn't because of the risk of dying, but due to the risk of nausea and vomiting. My mom (160lbs) would vomit any time she takes 5mg of hydrocodone, and even gets nauseated from half of a name-brand 5mg/500mg Vicodin.

BTW, Novocaine, Procaine, Lidocaine, Benzocaine, and Cocaine are all very closely related (although I think Procaine is a synonym for one of the others). They are also all local-vasoconstrictors, so I would strongly recommend against adding anything that the dentist doesn't know about to your mouth, because they can affect healing and clotting times.

You are getting upset needlessly. I have had at least 6 root canals, posts and crowns put in, and the thing that I found that works wonders is Advil (ibuprofin). I have never needed anything else, and its really not that bad. If you get novacaine which I always do, your not going to feel a thing. It sounds much worse than it is. I'm going for number 7 at the end of this month, and I don't even think twice about it. Your fear is making it worse than it is. Relax. :)

Edit: You might introduce some impurities into the area by doing what your talking about... I wouldn't go there.. the novacaine is going to completely numb the area anyway, plus over a much larger area.
