Cocaine haul washes up on beach

A multi-million pound haul of what is thought to be cocaine has been found washed ashore on the Sussex coast.

Police said about 20kg (44lb) of drugs were found in a rucksack on the water's edge at Frenchman's Bay, Rye.

The substance is still being analysed at a forensic laboratory in London, Det Insp Ian Williams said.

But he said if the substance was confirmed as cocaine, the haul would be worth £1.2m in wholesale value, and about £6m in street value terms.

A local man spotted the rucksack while walking his dog on Saturday morning.

It is thought the bag washed ashore overnight.

Mr Williams said: "We are glad to have removed such a large quantity of what appear to be drugs from the streets of the UK.

"There have been no other reports of such finds or evidence of attempted importations in the area recently, but we are keen to hear from anyone who has seen any suspicious activity along the stretch of the coast near Rye in recent days."

He said there was no evidence to suggest where in the UK the drugs may have been destined.

Right? you'd think someone would of spotted it, peaked at its contents and peaced out. 44lb isnt that heavy so theres no excuse

the real kicker will be when they analyze it and find they've stumbled upon the largest mephedrone cache ever
 
That kinda makes me wanna package up 50 pounds of flour in bags and dump it somewhere and let the cops talk about thier "huge haul" that is pending analysis.
 
We did that as kids, filled a plastic lunch bag of baking soda and flour. Called the cops on a pay phone and said some older people were fighting and one pulled out a gun before the other one rode off on a bike and they dropped a bag of some white stuff and my friend tasted some thinking it was sherbert fizz and their mouth went numb and theyre running around (was after watching scarface when my mates parents were away).

they made a whole newspaper article about it on the front page of the local paper and the regions newspaper on page 3 or 4 and said the kid who tasted the powder was some kid that was a complete dickhead and started fights and gave out the address.

looking back on it now sorry two ambulances had to be dispatched but we were just dumb kids, but it was funny seeing the police arrive and bag it up and the kid being forced to hospital after the mother heard why the ambos came
 
Sorry but the chances are if that washed up on the coast of the UK it probably was fairly high quality cocaine. If I had found that I would not be reporting it to anybody that is for damn sure!
 
this stuff always happens to people that don't take advantage of it!

although I guess we don't hear about the people who would just keep it :)
 
It really pisses me off when people find shit like this and give it to the police, why cant it be me that finds it lol, i would make good use out of it.
 
Next day, 44lb of flour was found on the beach. Officer johnson says it's worth a street value of $20. The chief of police praised officers!
