Cocaine - Didn't you kill my brother?

Mail article trying to demonise cocaine - but it sounds more like the alcohol killed him to me.

The Nigella set may condone snorting cocaine but I don't - it killed my brother':

Fifteen years ago, on a rainy November night in 1998, I realised just how much of a problem my brother had with drugs. Arriving outside my house in Wandsworth, South London, he banged so hard on the door that I actually felt frightened.

Always a tall, muscular man, I noticed that night how less substantial he suddenly seemed, his clothes hanging loose and flapping around his body. Bill was just 48, but he had the sallow look of a much older man. He also smelled strongly of alcohol.

He staggered crab-like across the room and crumpled into the nearest chair, gesticulating like a madman, his eyes blazing and head jerking.

‘What is it?’ I pleaded. ‘Why are you behaving like this?’

‘I'm busting for a shit,’ he replied.

Two months later, Bill died alone in the chaos of his flat. The cause of death was given as a pulmonary embolism. But I have no doubt that the true cause was cocaine.

So forgive me if I get a little angry at Nigella Lawson and her coterie of metropolitan, liberal friends as they blithely excuse her recently exposed cocaine use, nodding along as she insisted that she didn’t have a drug problem, only a life problem.

See, cocaine abuse, and alcoholism, are actually part of an axis of metropolitan, liberal, Leftist, handwringing, blithe, Channel-4-watching antiestablishment evil. Lest we forget.

But on visiting him unexpectedly one afternoon, I found him with a black eye, shaking hands and a terrified expression. There is not a trace of doubt in my mind that cocaine was the cause.

Erm doesn't she mean the dealers he owed cash to?

It was too late. A post-mortem examination the following day gave the cause of Bill’s death as a blood clot which travelled from the lung to the heart. His death was registered as due to ‘natural causes’.
But it was definitely coke that dun it.

I found myself face to face with a chain of dealers and middle-aged gangsters whose relationships with my brother had been uncomfortably close.

Obviously such characters did not intrude into the Saatchi’s Belgravia household, but they did mine.

When my home was raided by Customs officers ten days after my brother’s death, I was shocked to be handed a search warrant naming Bill as a suspect in an international investigation into the illegal trafficking of cocaine. Obviously such characters did not intrude into the Saatchi’s Belgravia household, but they did mine

LOL, doubt Nigella's been trafficking coke, so why would they.

It's a stupid article even for the mail. How many people actually get into coke trafficking?

Also, I know he wrote his anti-drug book and released it last year, but why's Hitchens not writing this shit anymore? Far more entertaining when he does it

And LOL at printing the 'craziest' pic they can find of Nigella, to clearly show she's lying when she claimed she:

strenuously denied being a regular user, saying she had taken cocaine only a handful of times

She then told me about something called ‘wet brain’ — which is incipient drug or alcohol-induced dementia. My brother was just 46.

^ whut's this about then, anyone got any info/personal experience/knowledge of?

ps

people do forget that coke can kill.
Lost my brother in law to coke. He made a school boy error, got out of rehab and assumed he could still put a G in his arm and have a fun time...

I know of two people here who died with coke, both in mid-twenties, were part of this dealer's crew, doing it every night, I think one had a stroke and the other some heart complications while snowboarding on the mountains, they were both high on it when dying.
