I just thought this little news bit would be of interest to the Other Drugs crew, as it probably would not be seen in the news forum:
Study shows cocaine speeds spread of HIV
Los Angeles. Cocaine can also give the virus believed to cause AIDS a kick-start, scientists reported Thursday. Tests in mice show that cocaine helps the HIV virus spread faster in the body, killing off more immune cells and reproducing 200 times faster than usual.
Dr. Gayle Baldwin, an AIDS researcher at UCLA, said "In two weeks, the drug radically stimulated teh production and spread of HIV. The cocaine increased HIV's efficiency so drmatically that it nearly wiped out the CD4 T-cells."
The spread of the HIV virus and its effects on the immune cells known as CD4 T-cells are directly related to how sick a person becomes with HIV infection.
-This article was from a daily newspaper in Boston, but was initially cited from Reuters. However, I could not find the article on the Reuters website. Alot of findings are misconstrued by news agencies but I still think this is of interest.
 
Well then, it's another reason to not get AIDS! And if you're going to have sex with a raver, make sure you get her tested first (I would advise use of a condom but condoms suck! - You can get instant tests online for about $29) Also, everyone should get a full battery of DNA-level tests for ALL STD's - I am tested every 6 months, the battery is for something like 32 differn't diseases ... but anyway, if I had AIDS (and was therefore dying) I think I would be more interested in living for the now... fun today bvecause you might be gone tomorrow! Plus once you have AIDS how could you stand to have sex with anyone in clean consisious? You would HAVE to either 1) Have sex with someoneelse with AIDS or 2) Tell your partner, even then, if they said yes how could you do that to them? Even condoms fail...
This is really getting off-topic..
 
How much coke. I have no doubt that if you keep anything on enough stimulants you will do serious harm to the immune system.
 
Are you joking? Who gives a shit realy? If you have HIV or AIDS then worry but if you dont then, Well, INJOY YOUR COKE. Lifes too short.
 
I think this would be more applicable to people that are HIV positive but don't yet have a full blown case of AIDS. They may be walking that fine line and just get pushed over the edge by their coke habit.
But even if you did have AIDS, wouldn't you want to try and live for as long as possible. With all the new drugs that are coming out people's life-spans have been extended by years, and who knows if in those couple extra years of life they might come out with a cure. So yeah, if you really want to cut your life short, go ahead and do all the coke you want. But why not be smart and at least switch to something like heroin that might not be quite as harmful?
