I'm on 4 30/500 co-codamol a day which is 120mg codeine. I sometimes take 8 which gives me 240mg. Has anyone on these seeker help from their GP or physician? I like the feeling but I watched a documentary on OTC drug addiction and someone got DHC which I find to be less addictive. But would my GP help me come OFF them rather than go on stronger opioid medication by giving me a short term DHC script or can Subutex be prescribed bearing in mind it's co-codamal? I don't understand why heroin addiction is the only drug people get help from they don't see oxys or viks to be in the same league. Anyone on any opioid should receive the same standard of help.

I personally would ask your GP, at least where I am (Canada) most doctors would encourage people who think they have problems with opioid use to get some sort of treatment, even if it's overuse of codeine, and they can help you come up with a treatment plan to either detox, taper, or get on substitution therapy like methadone or suboxone.

Thanks Sekio I would rather be on a substitute like subutex rather than suboxone because of that other addition to bupe. But that's helpful info because I thought methadone or even subutex was strictly for heroin. I just don't get the kick out out of codeine anymore and don't like taking 8 instead of my prescribed dose. I did tonight and 240mg of codeine isn't having the same effect than my dosage of 120mg of codeine. I also have a long history of alcohol and drug abuse so my GP doesn't even like giving me the drugs I'm on let alone increasing it. I'm due to join another GP because of my move but they will get all my addictions on their computer and when I asked to be put on 8 cocodomals a day he said no.. and I should try exercise or ibuprofen gels. Bupe would be my drug of choice mainly because it lasts longer and is stronger.

I'm not sure if you would be given subutex for a relatively small codeine dependence, but you might do, depending on your drug service/doctor. I take it you're in the UK?
Beware though, subutex is a biiiiiig step up from codeine, it's going to be harder to quit that than cocodamol by a long shot.
I'd rethink this decision, unless you really need to go on something long term.
The subutex will stop working for you eventually too, exactly like the codeine has now, but it will hurt a hell of a lot more I you ever have to quit.

Thanks axe battler I'm now thinking of stopping the cocodomal all together and use it as and when I need it. It isn't a drug that makes me crave it as other substances have and I'm not getting much from them anymore. I'm from UK and my Dr is very reluctant to give me anything habit forming. He won't even give me 8 a day which is the highest dose. I think stopping the codeine for a while will help and I don't want a stronger opioid as if they stop it I will be left with a worse addiction than the cocodomal. Could a less potent drug such as DHC be used I don't get the same feeling off them as I do codeine?

I think that's a wise decision man.
Also as you're in the UK, it won't be a case of seeing your GP and being given a prescription. You'd have to be referred by your GP to your local drug service, and be titrated on subutex, then you'd have to go to the chemist every day for supervised dosing, and unless you've got a job or other excuse, you're probably gonna stay on daily supervised dosing except for when ya pharmacy is shut. Plus you'll meet so many charming (not) people at the drug service and queue at the pharmacy who are using hard drugs and if you get friendly they may drag you down with them if you're tempted.

Most doc's will tell you DHC is twice as strong as codeine, so I think it's unlikely. I would just stay as you are if you need the medication, but take breaks as you suggested, and exercise and ibuprofen like your doctor did.

Hope that helps mate!

I don't think I want a really bad opioid habit so that's the way I'm going to do it. My GP said exercise would help and he's tried me on all the back rub gels from ibuprofen to diclofenic. I don't get back pain all the tile and it's pretty mild when it happens. Walking or cold weather sets it off. I have taken 8 cocodomals foe 2 days leaving me with 12 pills left 12x 30/500. Thanks and will steer clear of opioid meds or other, I'm hooked on benzos and don't need a worse habit than I've already got.

Maybe you should quit while your ahead codeine isn't very addictive compared to the stronger ones dhc you will be kicked out the chemist for over doing your scripts then you will get blacklisted so if you ever get in an accident like a car crash they will give you paracetamol of your lucky I guarantee it. Take care mate.

Your gp will turn on you eventually if you play him for a fiddle that's how life works junto you keep pushing and it backfires I'm sorry you haven't learned this yet but please just stop this crazy idea of drugs, go get a none drug using social friends I'm not being mean but a bit of back pain should not need anything stronger than what your getting it it is it's because of tolerance take care man

Just be careful and don't let your doctor know what your doing obviously because it you do BOOM you lost your best connect some people just get unlucky and get cut off to it you have any more questions feel free to message me

Uhm.. That's not a very nice way of talking to someone who is trying to help you

Your the one doing H it doesn't get any dirtier. You DM me first, mentioning me in every thread you make and now your on my thread.

No problem jungo mate.

Pete, I'm not saying this to start/continue an argument, but I find it strange that you're giving advice like this here, but on so many other threads, you are being told to stop fucking around with opiates. Like as if in the last few days you've experienced everything there is that a 10 year heroin addiction has to offer and you're now this wisened, crusty old junkie.

The OP had already made his mind up anyway, and so should you. Again, I'm saying this because I don't like other people's misery.

Listen to your own advice Pete! It's good advice!

Thanks axe battler. I will admit I rose to the bate but pete mate I don't have a problem with you its all shit. Let's just get along. I'm not wanting to read up that you have taken too much and end up OD. People here including me are trying to help you
