as the primary source of cocaine, natural Coca leafe and it’s infusions in water. have got a very bad reputation. This is despite the fact that they have many medicinal benefits. Coca is one of the stimulant alternatives I’m thinking of trying once I quit caffeine. assuming all the Coca alkaloids including cocaine are left intact, I have the following questions i’m struggling to find answers to.
1-aside from the toxicity of calcium hydroxide to the oral mucosa, does chewing Coca in the traditional manner have any major harmful effects on mental health?
2-how does chewing or drinking Coca Tea compare to traditional tea or coffee, especially in terms of the stimulant effects?
3-how does Coca tea taste in comparison to real traditional tea?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not a Doctor but I'm gonna take a poke shot guess that coffee and tea are by far healthier than coca leaves.

You may well be right, especially if they have a very high cocaine content, but apparently they’ve been used for hundreds of years and have a high nutritional value in terms of minerals/vitamins. of course, I am interested in the stimulant component and whether this is dependent on the cocaine content.

They have a low cocaine content, you need a lot of leaves to process cocaine hcl

Er, of course the stimulant component is dependent on the cocaine content - the stimulant component is cocaine

Leaves are known as a light stimulant which helps with respiratory altitude issues, and imagine the leaves are difficult to procure too

Don't know where you live, but perhaps khat may be easier to procure than coca? I've never tried khat myself, but it sounds like it's a decent functional stimulant. Unfortunately outlawed in the UK now, but isn't fuckin everything? :\

When I was in Peru, I tried both coca leaf tea and chewing leaves (the tea is perfectly legal and socially accepted, chewing leaves is more of a traditional thing in the mountains among quechuan people). The tea really does nothing, though it is suggested as a treatment for altitude sickness. I did get a pleasant mild stimulating buzz from chewing the leaves but it wasn't much, not like having a nice big cup of coffee. Maybe if I had chewed more of it, dunno. Also, when you chew it you have to do so with a little bit of ash or lime, to release the coca alkaloids. I don't know what it was they gave me, seemed like a piece of charcoal.
As to whether it's unhealthy, I don't know. You don't ingest much actual cocaine that way, imho. In Bolivia they had all these posters up promoting the many alleged healthy benefits of it, for digestion an stuff, but it's even more accepted there than in Peru. The tea is kind of uninteresting to me but not awful. Chewing the leaves was pretty meh.

OK, sounds good. given that the stimulant component is cocaine, it is probably the case that the small amounts produced by chewing the leaf are not harmful and its probably quite good for creating focus and satisfaction without serious addiction.

I was born and always lived in the UK but I am ethnically Yemeni and my parents were from Yemen. Khat is their main drug/socialising tool of choice. people say different things about it, some say it’s decent but many say it’s very mild. I tried it on a few occasions myself and didn’t get anything out of it. then again, I may not have chewed enough of it for long enough.

Thanks for sharing that. This is purely theoretical, but I am wondering if the leaves have to be chewed on several occasions to trigger a sensitisation process, in which the drug slowly becomes more rewarding and it’s stimulant affects more apparent.

It's great for altitude sickness, I don't think you actually get high unless you consume kilos of it which would probably make you nauseous
