guys,
i'm organising a group to go clubbing on sat night in syd and looking for some suggestions. It's made slightly difficult by the fact that they are a mix of seasoned clubbers, and beginners.
So i'm looking for a space that has a mix of great music, areas to sit down and chill, and of course a good crowd and vibe.
ANy suggestions??

Well Sat 20th May features another Mad Racket at marrickville bowling club. This time featuring Herbert as seen on chaosmusic:
"The Herbert Show, consisting of the trio of Matthew Herbert, Dani Siciliano (vocals) and Phil Parnell (keyboards), is currently touring Australia and New Zealand. The show is a unique mix of live vocals and instruments, “live” sampling and electronics, and is like nothing you will have seen or heard before.
Internationally renowned for his trademark sound, Herbert performed his Radioboy show live in Sydney last year. That show consisted of him using bags of chips, a kettle, a transistor radio and a bottle of water (amongst other objects) to create a wall of sound.
This year the show will be more musical, but no less experimental. Apparently there is a piano accordion involved..."
Alongside will be regulars Ken Cloud, Simon Caldwell, Jimmi James and Zootie. Tickets are $28 at reachin, acetate and So music in Newtown.
Definitely a great night for doing something different to the usual club thing, just pissed off I had already booked my flight for that day before i found out

I spose it depends on what kind of music you want to listen to.
Personally, Im kinda over the Sydney Clubbing scene for now.
When I have been heading out, ive been doing the dinner/wine/pub thing for some really good chats and a more easy going atmosphere.
One place that you should probably check is the new Tantra (the old Byblos). I was there on opening night and I was quite impressed. The Dj at the time was playing his set, and at the same time, they had a live Saxaphone player, going hard with the Dj. Made for some really funky music.
They have a good chill out room, good air conditioning and plenty of seats.
Otherwise, nothing else has really tickled my fancy lately.
Cheers,
Brook
