What are some good ways to get new members to a club and get more interest in the club?

A particular debate club I am in is going to have a social meeting, with the other team, where food is advertised. That is all we really have going right now...

Any specific ideas? Posters, et cetera?

Someone told me he posted a poster with a question mark on it and a room number, and it got a bunch of people to at least to come check it out. When they found out it was chess club, most left, but membership increased big time because a few stayed behind.

serve alcohol. ;)

Always a good way of getting club membership up... god damn I love it that the drinking age is 18 over here :):) For the main club that I'm involved with, we have weekly bbq's with $1 beers!!

CB :)

Social events are defintely key. Also, find out if the school paper offers discounted or free periodic advertising for campus groups. Advertising (semi-) via mass media can bring in lots of first-timers.
