Clonazepam - WTF is going on?

So long story short last night was my first night without drinking in a long while so my buddy gave me 1.5mg of clonazepam, got myself a large coffee, and we hit the bowl a bit to help me ease out of it. (I'm not a serious alcoholic but I drink every evening and I'm stopping before its getting worse, I'm getting some drug counseling and all that jazz.)

I took the clonazepam at around 5:30pm and smoked some weed at around 6, went out for dinner with some other friends, was feeling pretty loopy until 11-12, took 150mg of the 225 of effexor I'm regularly prescribed (I can't tell you why I did this, I usually take it in the morning) then went to bed and didn't feel tired at all. I laid awake in bed until 3am when I decided I wasn't going to get any sleep and I got up and have been studying since then. I had an energy drink that I drank slowly to up my concentration and I'm about to have another one.

Here's the kicker: It's now 6am, I've been up for 24 hours straight now, I have a relatively clear mind, only feel slightly tired, and not nearly ready for bed. I do clonazapem recreationaly from time to to time and it usually makes me tired after a while. I'm very suspicious because when I take it in the evening I'm always ready for bed. I'm a guy who needs his sleep and stuff and I can't figure out how I'm so chipper... all in all this is a good thing and I'll be able to get all the work I need to get done today even if I have to take a nap, but does anyone have an inkling as to why this is happening?

I'd say the culprit is a mix between the coffee you took, the Effexor and the lack of alcohol. Next time you want to sleep, do not take the coffee, take the Effexor in the morning as usual, and you can up the dose if you don't feel 1.5mg of clonazepam ;)

It was all very peaceful... Its 1030 and im sill feeling alright. Very serene. I might do this again depending on how my crash is... I wonder ic i should do more clonazepam or not...

Apologies as this isnt strictly a harm reduction answer.

Personally id maybe try an alcoholic drink (not a lot of alcohol, maybe a beer or a Glass of wine)

Also on a personal level i find Clonazepam the least sedating (and alround useless benzos in general) whether it be for its hypnotic, sedative, anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, amnestic, and skeletal muscle relaxant properties.

Even though its is known for a medical fact to be one of the more potent.

Btw i am also on Venlaxafine (although my dose is 150mg Er per day)

Good luck and stay safe ;)

I would definitely hold the Effexor at least partly responsible - insomnia is a very common side effect, especially at higher doses..

With the Effexor do you take the slow release ( XL ) I found these gave much lesser side effects.

Also you say you drink everyday and have stopped dead with no chemical support, I don't know how much you were drinking but when I gave up I needed a benzo to support me for a bit, admittedly I was already taking Diaz but they would have given me 2 weeks of librium if I hadn't and I know that if I'd have stopped drinking without some kind of benzo I wouldn't have slept, probably for days

agreed, lay off effexor and caffeine. exercising and dieting efficiently cure chroic/acute anxiety or depression over long-periods of time (unlike drugs which provide effective results for brief periods of time only to exacerbate symptoms).
