Cleaning Testing Area

I guess if particles of soap or bits of alcohol are left, it might influence the reaction.
Just clean it thoroughly and dry it, then it should be OK to test on.

I would suggest using something other than the lid, as I find I don't get the same result as when using a china plate

the testing kits is actually i think, acidic
if i am correct then i wouldn't let soap or water get in the way - soap would neutralise it and water will dilute it - either way not good!

I'd go for a white plate that's been sitting in your kitchen cupboard cuz I too get varying results in the cap. I hate having to test a pill 5 times till I can get a good idea of what it is. Anyways whatever you decide to use, just wash with dishsoap and water and wipe it out with a towel.

I'd agree with Stacy above....just use a clean plate, wiped clean with a clean dish cloth or paper towelling.
There is no need to go overboard: the reactions between soap and water are not going to be strong enough to interfere with the Marquis reagent here (unless the plate is coated with the stuff and it won't be 'cause you read and understood all the stuff above, didn't you?!)
