I live in Texas in case nobody knows i cant just go to wal-mart or anywhere for that matter and just pick up a pack of needles if i could this question would be completely asinine. The closest place is about 20 miles away and closes at 5.
My friend who has been a junkie for years was scared (for a lack of a Better word) to ask a pharmacist staff for syringes. He was originally buying syringes in the hood for a couple bucks a pop, till I told him to not waste his money and I'll go to buy a pack from a pharmacy. I went to Walmart and had no trouble. No one even batted an eye. Now if someone does refuse to sell syringes to you, go downto the next pharmacy. You will not have every pharmacy filled with ignorant people who rather see IDUs get dieases from improper syringe use, among other complications, then to allow individuals to practice safe injections. So dont get discouraged if say a Walgreens refuses you, just go to the next store. It doesn't hurt to know what specifications you prefer for syringes. I've been using the reli-on 29 gauge 1 cc (1 ml - volume) 12.7mm (length of the needle) syringes that Walmart stocks. I prefer 30 or 31 gauge 1cc 1/4 inch syringes but I buy heroin with a friend who needs the longer needle for him to be able to shoot up.
I just think anyone who can not invest in needles every time they go out and score, or every once in a while purchase a box of 100 for not much over 10 dollars, should stop injecting and use other ROAs. Even if it is 20 miles away (dunno if you're out in the middle of no where, or if you're exaggerating the drive), you really don't get much sympathy from me. It shows that a longer drive then you wish is more important then the health of your body. No one expects complications to happen to them because they are different. However complications can happen to anyone, ESP when you start a precedent of lower health standards for parenteral routes of administration. You may not realize your cleanliness is declining slowly while you continue to inject. It's easy to say fuckit, I'll reuse a syringe or I'll use a syringe with a unknown origin (just typing that last bit made me sense the potential risks I be taking by doing so). The more you say fuck it, the larger the chance you will run into complications or be hating yourself years in the future for allowing yourself to be careless. Not saying this will happen but it does all the time to people who didn't expect to run into IV complications.
You should also consider ordering syringes from the Internet. Buy a box or two of syringes and they will show up at your house. That gets rid of the need to go to a pharmay. You won't have to deal with the possibility of the pharmacist being a dick (sometimes just showing up clean - clothes and body - helps prevent this) as well. Some web sites also sell micron filters and other helpful IV products, so you can get your needles and filtering device at the same time. Having a stock of syringes would probably be the best bet if getting to a pharmacy is a concern. Spending 12 bucks or so for 100 syringes will hold people for a decent period of time which you can monitor to help prevent you from becoming to low on syringes that you would consider using potential unsterile syringes.
Seriously tricomb? No sources for things such as micron filters or syringes. I have to express my concern. I feel people believe that other parenteral equipment, like micron filters aren't really an option. They don't know where it would be found in stores, or where they can be easily bought online, so it becomes non-vital. A lot of us here are aware that this is far from the truth. When it comes to pills commonly IVed like hydromorphone tablets or morphine pills, using a micron filter is a must or damage to the veins is inevitable, and of course raises the risks for the other complications discussed in a mega thread for IV complications.
