Has anyone ever heard of fentanyl being manufactured in clandestine labs?

In Maryland law illegal possession of fentanyl is a hefty crime, and having a clandestine lab of one is pretty tough too. I know I am addressing legality issues here, but my question is based on people's experiences with fentanyl and these illicit labs. It's made out to be like meth...

Yeah. Fentanyl and it's analogs are what caused the whole implementation of the drug analog act in the United States. Since fentanyl was a controlled substance but it's analogs weren't, street drug makers created analogs of fentanyl to pass off as heroin. The drugs they created were labeled as "designer drugs". This is how that term was invented.

I'm not sure how easy fentanyl is to produce or how many labs there are, but I know that this is why they make a huge deal out of it. Synthetic opiates such as Fentanyl can be much more dangerous than real heroin because they are more potent. If a user believes they have pure heroin, they could easily OD on a high dose of fentanyl.

I'm curious, how much like %age wise, of the "heroin" on the street is actually diacetylmorphine ? Or one of it's hydrolysed metabolites..since it might suck up moisture in storage somewhere. How much of the 'heroin' out there is really fentanyl or any analogue or 'china white' ??? is it more prevalent northeast? NE is where white powder heroin is more prevelant right?

^^^ not much, if nearly none is fentanyl or any analogues--the high is different, control of product and dosing is too difficult and expensive, etc. Anyone who says that it is common is misinformed. Do a search and you will find some informative posts about the topic. Also, there are some interesting links to news articles and books about the subject. Take a search, since I can't find it and I am running out.

It's impossible to mistake fentanyl for heroin once you inject it. Instead of staying high for 4-8 hours you're high for 15-60 minutes.

I've always wondered... if you cut it, wouldn't it be possible for sections of the bag to accumulate more fentanyl, and others to be almost all cut? Leading you to do a big dose of almost all cut, then get a patch that's almost pure fentanyl and OD?

I mean, how does a cut stay evenly distributed?

Yeah, this is a dumb question, but I can't get ahold of dope, so I've never done it.

You need a special machine to properlly cut fentanyl or other very potent drugs. Even using ether and letting it evaporate doesn't work. You can however take 1 mg of the drug and cut like 20 doses at a time so there is much less chance of people dying from the drug. Most of the sufentanyl deaths are from chemists that don't want to get that far into the distribution of it and just smuggle the pure drug as it is much smaller, cheaper, and safer to get from place to place. The deaths are mostly to people either not knowing what they are doing when cutting it, being lazy, or just being cheap.

^ The fact that they try to pass off sufentanyl as heroin is stupid though. It's all about greed. If they were straight up and tried selling it for what it was, they might get less customers, but people would be informed and less people would die.

why would they get less customers, if somebody is selling stuff for what it was, people respect that and you will get more return business.

Because I think most people would prefer diacetylmorphine to sufentanyl given the choice.

A smart dealer would at least take into consideration the fact that they might be held responsible if the product they were selling ended up killing one of their users. Apparently not all dealers think that far ahead.

most junkies arent going to rat out a dealer just because one of the other people that buy from the same dealer OD'd on super strong shit. If anything, they will rob people to get some of the same shit.

^ When someone dies in the U.S., someone always has to pay for it. The police/FBI/DEA/whoever would try their hardest to track down the dealer and they most likely would succeed.

wtf are you talking about? Do you realize how many junkies die each year? If one dealer went down for every one of them, there would be no smack left.
EDIT - let me rephrase. Lets say 20 users died from using the same batch. This might promt athorities to step up efforts to bring the dealer down. But do they usually find the right guy? no. they might find a dealer, but probably one that is totally unreleated. Just to have something to "show" for it. The only thing they can really do is to have a big press release on "killer" heroin in a certain area, which they DO all the time.

We're getting away from the original topic, but I think lots of dealers end up getting screwed when junkies die.

Hell, even bars are getting in trouble these days when their patrons end up driving drunk and killing people. When drugs or alcohol are involved in a death there's always someone to blame it seems. Maybe not always, but I hear about this kind of shit quite often.

yeah, you're right. There is always someone to blame. But you think it's the dealer that sold that dead fuck the stuff, that's going to get in trouble...let alone even known of or found? Guess again.
