Civilization series

I've been playing Civilization since Civ1, and I still have a hard time winning on anything harder than 'Warlord'. I used to play on 'Chieftan' all the time in Civ2/Civ3.

IMO, the harder the level you play on, the more you need some luck to win it. And by luck, I mean you start off on a good piece of real estate, don't encounter any other civs for a while, etc.

The increased gradients of difficulty level in Civ4 were a godsend though. I feel so great about myself playing on Warlord, because in Civ3, Warlord was a lot tougher. Hehe.

I do Monarch, Large, Epic. I do love the bigger maps, but I've found that difficulty increases with map size as you can't war with most until late-game and they get massive tech leads.

Ah, I play on Emperor, huge map so that explains my thinking "wow how is that possible!". Might go down a notch to monarch and try something completely different.

I also use the BTS expansion (has a very good AI that humiliated me at times).

Yeah I always play BTS since it came out. I always play on the largest map size that the game engine allows, and I used to almost always play on an Earth map instead of a generated map. Civ4 is the first one I've played more random than Earth map games.

I've just been goose-stepped again! Started off well, took out 1 civ in short order, spread judaism to Shaka (who covered ~75% of my borders), and two minors. But then my hindu rival diplo-vassalised the minors and all the other independents went theocratic. The only other civ was buddhist-turned jewish Ghandi (25% of my border) who everyone hates. We're currently all hacking him to pieces so soon it's gonna be me and Shaka vs the rest. *groan*

I think I'll just give him all my techs and see where the chips fall.
