"City Sonnet" (any thoughts, folks?)
City Sonnet
Candles flickering through the blurred haze:
Their rays swarming wider over the walls.
Booming bass beats pound my ears into a daze
Yet I see not their lights, still I hear not their calls.
Through the open curtains stands the window ajar.
Dirty and vivid glows the city night's sky, grey and pink.
Crashing of pounding rain interrupted only by a passing car.
Gazing and listening, stopping and staring, I ponder and think.
Lying half-senseless upon the deep, plush duvet,
My eyes sink into the ceiling's swirling whirls
As my feet freeze in the coldness of urban boys and girls.
Still - 'midst all this hell - I know that later comes day.
Her weak, wet, watery rays lethargically ascending
To the heights for the day - then by dusk back descending.
