I take 20mg citalopram daily and am wondering if 300mg dxm would be safe to take.

I am asking because I read that according to the French Product Monograph, citalopram inhibits CYP 2D6 more weekly than other SSRIs.
So any advice, experience on this?

Yeah it seems that citalopram is only a weak CYP2D6 inhibitor and shouldn't cause any significant difference in its activity or the metabolism of DXM. There is only one other thing to consider that I can think of: serotonin syndrome. DXM, along with citalopram, is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor and the two combined could possibly elevate the levels of serotonin in synapses to a toxic degree. This might cause hyperthermia, tremor, dysphoria, tachycardia, and nausea.
That said, who knows what your individual reaction might be but it seems at least slightly risky. If I were you and I were completely set on trying this, I would at least try the combination at a lower dose of DXM first to test its effects on you. There are some reports of experiences like this (in fact, one on erowid with 20 mg citalopram and 300 mg dxm with chlorpheniramine) and that one at least ended up alright. [For the record, I'd VERY strongly suggest keeping away from DXM with anything else in it including chlorpheniramine, diphenhydramine, or phenylephrine, being that at least the first two are serotonin reuptake inhibitors and are both 2D6 inhibitors, which would increase the likelihood, duration, and danger of serotonin toxicities] Definitely at least take it easy with this combination as serotonin syndrome has been reported and it is 1) incredibly unpleasant and scary and 2) potentially lethal. Anyways, good luck!

I have done dxm a few times while on citalopram in the past when I didn't know about Serotonin Syndrome without any bad effects. I took doses of 300 and 600mg and the only bad thing I experienced was throughing up.

i've accidentally had a mild encounter with serotonin syndrome, i took 14 of my anti-depressant pills which were like 20 mg, so with 240mg of zoloft in me, after i'd forgotten i'd taken them, i downed a bottle of 20 robo gelcaps (30 mg of dxm in each one) and it made the trip very very weird for me. i had synaesthesia, which was v extreme, i had uncontrollable shaking/muscle spasms, i remember i vomitted a bit and it tasted like the gross chemical mix from the broken gelcap stuff, and i smoked a joint to try and calm down and went outside with my friend and EVERYTHING began to look like it was almost a cartoon, vividly cartoonish-strange looking things, even though they all looked the same (like a tree was a tree, only it was a..cartoon tree), and my bpm was like atleast 190, and when i was coming down usually my comedown from dxm is just kind of mellow/chilled out, and i feel 'worn', and then fall asleep, but this comedown was like full out tremors and twitching and it felt like i was coming off ritalin or cymbalta or something...

the trip itself was very interesting, but i'd not repeat it again and i'd say my health was probably at great risk at the time
