Ciggy smokers should be paid less or made to work longer

I don't mind that they have their ciggie breaks. Cos it makes us non-smokers look better :)

I think there are only 3 smokers in our department, 2 being secretaries and their bosses crack the shits when they disappear downstairs ...

My boss is forever saying "lucky your not a smoker Tenielle, we are lucky there"

Where I work smoke breaks don't exist. I think its probably illegal, but i signed the contract ... I get just one 15 minute break in a 5 hour 45 minute shift. One time I missed out on my break aswell coz we were really busy ...

I dont appreciate that train of thought because it focuses on time rather than productivity. There is nothing that frustrates me more than a clockwatcher. I dont beleive that numerous cigarette breaks are suitable, and I don't beleive in my staff constantly asking for them.

But I would never promote the issue of fussing over a couple of minutes (tardiness excepted). But then again, I'm the sort of person that will come half an hour early and leave and hour later but not register it in my time sheet. I suppose its management position, and If i choose to operate like that and have a smoke whenever I want, then I think i have that right.

At the place I used to work nearly everyone smoked including all my bosses so it wasn't a problem. If you got your work done they didn't say anything. If you weren't completing the tasks and you were taking a lot of breaks then they clamped down. Also, the non-smokers would normally come outside with the smokers anyway... there was nothing to say they couldn't.

It would totally depend on your line of work though

Where i work we get 2 15 minute breaks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, as well as lunch. I work in retail and find that i often dont get my breaks. I find it unfair tho that the smokers can always find time to duck out for a ciggie break all the time. Nothing is more disgusting then someone who REAKS of cigarettes.. i say give up yer mornign and arvo sit downs and go out and have a ciggie instead..
 
No. I think smokers who take too many ciggie breaks are not being team players and being selfish. Most smokers take ciggies to keep the weight off anyway. Therefore, it makes sense to substitute their lunch break with the ciggy break. Suck down as many fags as you can in 30 minutes and be done with it for the day.

There's not really that much intelligence in that post. Its quite a sweeping statement that seems to be based on a rash generlisation.
 
I only smoke during my lunch break. I feel rude sneaking out for a smoke while everyone else is working their asses off. Not only that but I guess it is a little inconsiderate to stroll back and serve customers smelling like an ashtray. Haha I sound like a dedicated smoker dont I!

Slightly off topic, but what about those workers who have too many toilet breaks! Going 10 mins before their lunch break, or 10 mins after they get back. Pisses me off!

erm ciggie breaks arent a given. its only if your boss/workplace allows it. heh.

heh do you get angry about the ppl who get more money on award wages just cause they have a car ?? i used to fork like 30$ a week in travel to work and that was still with dodging the inspectors holding my *student* ticket tightly...

i say stfu and ltfu... (light the fuck up) ;)
 
I usually take one five - ten minute ciggy break in my six hour shift, plus otherworkers can easily get ten minute breaks too, they can just say "I'm going to get some fresh air, or for a drink or something"
 
lol. As usual, papermate, you just don't get it. But you do make me laugh. So it's worth it.

Another option perhaps, is to make all ciggies have 20 milligrams or so of nicotine. None of this light, menthol rubbish. Load the user up on nicotine with their first ciggy and hopefully, they'll manage to get right thru the rest of the day. Nevermind that most of them will puke - they'll get used to it eventually.

^ heh. Either that or let people smoke at their desks so they don't have to leave their computers. Just have a smokers office and a non-smokers office.
 
A few people at my work also just pretend they smoke even if they don't to get the ten minute breaks. Its quite amusing.
 
Nezo I'm not sure which part you are indicating that I don't understand. Could you elaborate?
 
alright mate. I delberately post inane, offensive, bigoted and somewhat thought provoking stuff on bluelight so I can generate some light hearted discussion and have a bit of a laugh. I really don't mean half (if not most) of the shit that I say. Most of the stuff I post is purely in jest and bit tongue in cheek.

It's just my stupid sense of humour. It's a bit warped. I guess it doen'st come thru the internet that well though.

Back on topic - make ciggies a dollar each! People will smoke less then and take less breaks. The government should then divert the hike in cigarette taxes to charities or medical research. <--- perhaps one of my less stupid ideas.
