Cigarettes...

Happy Chem, although we had our differences i still enjoyed the heat of the decate, more power to ya man :)

I like when I'm challenged by others and have to back my shit up

Cigarettes are a way of life to me, they arent a chemical delivery system. They bring the high and low together and play them against the stagnant middle. They are a sign of emaciation. In the words of Vonnegut, they are a slow suicide. They are simultaneously the individual and the multifarious. And yes, they feel FUCKING GOOD after a shot of dope.

Cigarettes are a way of rebelling against all the bullshit in my life, i extinguish them off my ex-gf's ass, and although the bitch may denounce me in my dreams, you can stack the bodies higher, because my lord, with every puff im coming to meet ya.

and happy chem just to let you know im a strict objectivist. :)

I've been smoking maybe two cigarettes a day for the last two weeks and the rush I get from them is pretty intense. I've heard that eventually the immediate nicotine rush becomes absent and when that happens one knows they're addicted to nicotine, is there any truth to this?

I've been a daily pot smoker for the last few months and don't really want to get hooked on cigarettes. Do any regular smokers still get such a hazy, tingling, floating headrush with each cigarette? (I only smoke twice a day because I've found that the effects are totally negligible if I smoke more.)

Should I stop while I'm ahead, before I stop getting rushes from smoking and just do it out of craving or will I always be guaranteed a nicotine rush when smoking only twice a day? I don't want to get hooked for nothing. :P

I've been smoking for like 6 months now and nearly quit
only 2 a day like you compared to a pack and a half a day like I used too.
The rush does go away but I find the fist smoke of the morning still makes me lightheaded for a bit.

Completely true, I dont feel a damn thing anymore unless im able to hold out for a good 2 days and even then the nicotine buzz is minimal at best.

I quit cigarettes two and a bit years ago. Lately when i have been out on the town i have been buying A cigarette off a friendly bystander. I am so disappointed with myself but......

Theres nothing like the feeling of being young and "Fucking It"

It doesnt fucking matter if you are addicted or not...

You are going to get a head rush as long as you havent had a cigarette in a while. Im not addicted to cigarettes but I have them every once and a while and I get head rushes on the first one...but if I have another one 30 minutes after Im fine and I dont feel shit.

Is nicotine the chemical that gives you the high? (Stupid noob question.) If so wouldnt it be wiser to simply save your lungs and body the pain and buy some nicotine gum / patches? That way you get your nicotine high without the smoke...?

Actually, you do feel it, it's just that as a full-time smoker your brain starts to acknowledge the nicotine buzz as the normal way you should feel. When you don't smoke a day or two, your body returns to normal, and that's why if you light a cigarette again you start feeling the buzz.

I started when I was young taking a vacation in Europe, go figure. Everyday I'd sneak out to smoke and get that "rush" everyones talking about, most people can still achieve this when they smoke a pack a day by having one in the morning...

Smoked for two years and managed to quit about a month ago.

A lot of generalizations have been made in this thread about the comparative addiction potential for cig's comapred to things like CRACK and HEROIN. My personal experience has led me to meet a few serious drug enthusiasts that had to put down the H or chill on the blow, but they never managed to kick habbit of smoking.... its all subjective

I personally don't think Cig's have much at all to do with Capitalism...go to China and see how they feel about the relationship between "fags" an Capitalism and you won't get much....

cigarettes are mass genocide. They are population control people. I'm addicted to them but ashamed. I wanna quit so bad and my parents want me to as well.

I forgot to mention, Marlboro Ultra light is the lightest ciggerate out there, it has hardly any nicotine, depending on how you smoke it. Those are probably more healthy than american spirits because American spirts are harsh for a beginner smoker and contain more nictotine. The reason marlboro, camel, etc..... put additives in their ciggarettes is to make it smoke smoother and not so harsh like american spirits or other non additive ciggs.
good luck

I don't know if this has been mentioned... I read most of the thread, but smoking a light cigarette is not any safer than smoking the heavier ones. That is because an experienced smoker wants the same amount of nicotine as they had before, so they will breathe the smoke deeper into one's lungs and basically smoke the cigarette more vigourously to get out more nicotine. These behaviors make the light cigarettes just as bad. However, if you are a naive smoker, it may be a bit better, as in you won't get as much nicotine or tar, but really, with two cigarettes a day, who is counting.

Honestly, just stop while you are ahead. I know it is a social thing, and it is really comforting while drunk or gives you something to do, but really, it isn't worth it. It ends up being a waste of money--think about it.

When you get up to .5-1 packs a day (which will happen....) you are spending somewhere between 17-35 dollars a week on cigarettes, assuming that cigarettes cost 5 dollars a pack. It costs even more in some states. that is 70-140 dollars a month. That is a ton of money to waste. All for the privalege of having that one buzz with your first cigarette of the day and smelling like an ash tray.

Apparently, cigarettes are the most difficult drug to quit--even more difficult than heroin. (Albeit, the w/ds probably aren't as bad (I never had to deal with opiate w/d) you just crave the damn things and go right back to them...) The cravings never really go away, and it is so easy to slip back.

Quit while you are ahead. Go out and buy yourself a nice gift with that money you would have spent on cigarettes. It will probably make you a lot happier.

..I don't know, cigarettes do make me pretty happy.

but smoking nicotine & tar is better than dope. For now, that's the stance I am taking.

I think a lot of it depends on how you metabolize nicotine - when I first started smoking I felt like I was high for 30 - 40 minutes. I've been smoking for over a year and I still get a strong buzz with my cigs. My cravings are normally about 4 - 6 hours apart, and I only smoke 3 or 4 to get through the day.

I conclude I probably metabolize nicotine kinda sluggishly. Maybe I'm lucky in that respect.

Yes.

And gum/patches tend to be expensive, and I'm also pretty sure they do absolutely nothing (except maybe if you don't smoke to begin with) except give you enough nicotine to keep you out of withdrawal/make you not crave cigarettes physically.
