(skipped the beginning of the article to get to the most interesting part to excerpt...)

There is no such thing as medical marijuana. It is a fraud, a canard, and a con. It is part of the conditioning narrative, also known as soft or pity propaganda, to eventually legalize pot. The efforts to legalize cannabis have been ongoing since the 1960s. The proponents of legalization latched on to the so called medical benefits argument and pushed those hard.

Instead of recreational use, they pity pushed medicinal use to get it legalized.

In states where it is legal there have been abuses of the law. That was the whole intent. As of two months ago, the federal government is cracking down.

If so called medical marijuana is legalized in all fifty states then full legalization will follow. This is the goal. At least that is what the advocates hope and think will happen.

Think about this. Supposedly cigarettes are not only a health hazard but a deadly hazard. They are allegedly a major cause of catastrophic diseases and death. If the medical community and the government agree whole heartedly that cigarettes are such a deadly health hazard why are they legal?

Why doesn’t the government just ban cigarettes? Why is our government allowing an extremely hazardous product to remain on the market? Our government bans all types of hazardous products. Why not cigarettes?

Why is marijuana banned and cigarettes legal? There are two reasons. They are the same two reasons why marijuana will never be legalized. Money and horticulture.

Hm... Well if his argument is that everyone will just grow their own so the government wouldn't be able to get a cut then why don't they just decriminalize use and possession, have pharmaceutical companies grow and distribute. And if you are caught growing or buying from someone growing you still go to jail? I would buy it legally if I could

Yeah i know what you mean. I would definitely go and actually legitimately buy cannabis from a shop, store, or pharmacy if it was possible. I hate the run around that goes with buying weed. If i could pick it up with my beer that would make things much easier. lol

I've always been of the opinion that tobacco is legal because any government who tries to ban it would surely be signing their own death warrant - hundreds of thousands of smoking voters wouldn't re-elect that party and it would provide an easy platform for their opponent to take advantage of.
As to why marijuana isnt legal, I think any government who attempts to legalize it would be considered soft on crime and soft on drugs and again, their opponent would easily sway the middle class parents masses that this would endanger their children blah blah...
It's a sad state of affairs, but our governments aren't always there to do the best for us - they're often there to fight the winning battles that will increase the odds of reelection and continue their nice salary.

i think there are a few reasons on each side which everyone pretty much knows; tobacco/alcohol/pharm lobbyists, inherent racism and tons of money for COPS.

His argument is that no commercial organization can make money off marijuana if everyone can just grow their own?

People can grow their own now (and they do, as he points out), but most smokers choose to give money to massive, illegal commercial organizations.

Buying weed is much easier then growing it, and there are already organizations that make billions of dollars off of it. The question is- should those organizations be illegal or legal? And the obvious answer is legal.

You have to consider that in nonmedical states, growing is the worst of marijuana crimes legally.

I would love to but I know I'd face much harsher punishments for growing than possessing.

I can't smoke for a while due to legal reasons but I definitely agree, I'd have preferred to pick it up from a store than having to drive to some random place, on a day to day changing schedule in an awkward situation. The illegal aspect of pot is really annoying and useless.

LEO's don't want to consider a grower a personal user, at least in my neck of the woods.

It really isn't any harder to make your own beer from yeast and then distill it into liquor than it is to grow pot. Yet the liquor industry is still booming. Why aren't hordes of people making their own liquor? Because when they don't have to go through a bunch of bullshit to buy it (like they do now, for buying any drug), people are more than happy to spend their money on convenience. The author of that article doesn't have a clue.

Tons of people grow weed in the city I live, which is in Texas. It's punished harsher but it's still very easy to do without getting caught and many people do.

The laws probably deter some people from growing, but a lot still do it.

The article makes a half-way valid point in saying that medical marijuana is a fraud perpetrated by people who just want weed legal. What has always pissed me off about the legalize pot movement is that it is headed by people who must be full of shit to an extent, or they are acting that way because culture in America taught them to be that way. When we (yes, we) get together and march, please don't let it be for some phantom wheelchair person who has a doctor's note. Let it be for the fucking truth: we want to get high, and the people who want to lock us up for that can die in a fire. Seriously. Are we that beaten down that we have to hide behind this medical marijuana bullshit, and then be subsequently subjected to accusations like that of this articles author which force us to hold up doctor's notes like show and tell and waste time arguing the medical merits? This is getting ridiculous. If you ask me, the movement should be more militant, because the other side sure is militant.

QFT

Our own fucking culture (western) makes us (the people) lie to get what we (the people) want. pfffffft

I blame our slow-ass-easy-to-manipulate political climate for all this shit. The fact that democrats and republicans had to argue and argue and argue on how to stop the US of A from defaulting back in july/august really goes to show how frail, fragile, and outdated the American politcal system has become. Fuck we need an overhaul BIG TIME

I agree that we deserve to have legal drugs to get high with.
No question.
Weed, and other drugs, should be made legal, immediately.

However, you are missing the point about medical cannabis.
It is a very important and useful medicine that helps people with a variety of physical problems.
By dismissing the medical utility of cannabis, you are ignoring the suffering of many sick people.

Besides, having another reason to made cannabis widely available certainly doesn't hurt our side, does it?

I can't help but get a creeping feeling that we are going about this the wrong way by pushing medical first. I definitely believe that people who enjoy the many benefits of marijuana for medical purposes should be catered to. But by using the medical angle, we are nurturing the environment of distrust between smokers and the government. The feds already know why there is so much steam behind reform - it's because people want to get high. When the issue is attacked from the valid but dishonest perspective of doing it for the sick people, you create an atmosphere like the current one: the feds let marijuana fly under false flags with medical marijuana cards, neglecting to do a hardcore universal raid. Then, after it is hideously apparent that everyone who smokes weed in California jokingly carries a medical marijuana card, they feel like they are being made fools of - as if a few people with "Dr." in front of their names have the ability to make fools of the federal government. It's just bad politics to attack an issue from such a patently dishonest angle.

^Straight up.

The mmj thing has always made me feel weird. Cannabis is a great medicine and all, but being honest, I think most people with medical cards would not say that they used marijuana medicinally if it were completely illegal or completely legal. They'd just say they wanted to get high. Especially with medical issues like stress and insomnia. I bet most people with medical cards for either of those issues would just say they liked smoking after work or at bedtime to chill out or sleep, but they wouldn't call it "medicinal."

And the goal of medicinal weed tends to be to eventually have it be legal, which is a dishonest way to get around having to campaign for legalization.

The government is against the pot shops in California because it's obvious that many or most of the people using them don't really need medical marijuana, they just like to get high. It's like the medical marijuana people tricked the government, and the US government doesn't like to be tricked.

I don't really buy the "why buy when you can grow?" argument. I can brew my own beer but I'd rather go to the store, I can cook my own food but I'd rather go to a restaurant, etc. Growing weed is a time-intensive process. It requires specialized equipment, it takes months to grow, there are any number of things that can go wrong during the growing process which could fuck up your weed. Why bother with that? I'd much rather go to the store and buy it. In fact, I think because it is so easy to grow, it could stimulate a lot of small businesses to grow their own product - "Mom and Pop Pot Shops". It's ease of growing would allow thousands of these stores to exist on a completely level playing field, too. Tobacco cultivation costs a lot of money. Marijuana cultivation doesn't. Literally anyone can grow their own product. The amount money generated from taxes these small business and all other marijuana-related industries would be huge.

Weed will be legalized some day once all the old guys die out.

I honestly dont see the problem with being dishonest in an effort to legalize marijuana. I mean, i do detest lying, but they (the feds) are doing the exact same to us. They lie about EVERYTHING. And then become militant and arrest us for it. So how is it bad for us to "lie" to get marijuana legal? I dont see it becoming legal in any other way. Either way, once it is legal, everyone will realize that no matter which side of the fence they are/were on, they were being lied to.

Believe me, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with lying to the people who destroy lives (and generations). but as a tactic, I think that it's not smart in this situation. It's sort of like calling them "stupid" and expecting them to suddenly perk up and listen.

i think a successful revolution will happen when we can say, "Legalize it or fuck you." It's already happening like that with drug lords outmatching DEA resources. The market has already spoken as to who will be the ultimate victor in this battle. I think the trick is to demoralize that DEA, and I've said it before but I'll say it again: the economy needs to be systematically tied to the drug trade in a dependent fashion. When people who don't need to take drugs still need drugs to support their lives, the tables will turn. The way to get there is to continue building the link between the two. we're already doing as much as we can. It is a war. Whichever side becomes economically devastated first loses.

I think the feds have the best possible strategy for legalization currently. Illegality and price are proportional. Unless they are doing the smart thing and making drugs illegal for the purpose of secretly being the front for a fleet of drug-smuggling vessels labeled with U.S. flags, then they are losing money two fold: first, they are spending money on fuel, technology, and people to keep up with a competition that is guaranteed to be ahead of them. Second, by continuing to keep fighting, they actually drive the profits of their competition UP. If this is their strategy for winning the war on drugs without the help of summoning Jesus, then it totally makes sense that they also believe in spending their way out of debt. Free market or not, the forces of nature will drive this beast into the ground. After the smoke clears, a mature drug market with excellent distribution pipelines will finally be capitalized enough to start lowering prices.
