The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is using drug money to fund Rafael Correa’s opposition in the coming 2013 Ecuadorian elections, intelligence sources have revealed to Chilean independent media. The accusations do not stand alone. In October, former UK diplomat Craig Murray said that the CIA had tripled its budget to destabilize the government of Ecuador.

The allegations were made public by President Rafael Correa on November 3rd on national television, just days after his official visit to Chile to meet with President Sebastian Piñera.

Correa reaffirmed information that appeared in an article written by Chilean independent media outlet Panoramas News, revealing that the CIA and DEA stations in Chile were running a narcotics trafficking network through that country with the full knowledge of Chilean authorities and police.

One of the sources quoted by Chilean media, a former police officer in the Policia de Investigaciones (PDI) by the name of Fernando Ulloa, said that 300 kilograms of cocaine were entering Chile monthly under the escort of members of his own institution, the Carabineros, and the Chilean Army. In May 2011, Fernando Ulloa met with then Chilean Minister of Interior Rodrigo Hinzpeter in La Moneda to inform him about the drug network. After more than one year, the Piñera’s government had done nothing to investigate the case.

The scandal resurfaced again after 10 Chilean cops were detained with links to a minor drug smuggling ring, not connected to the one Ulloa was exposing. Although Chilean television was more open to talk about police corruption, Ulloa was only interviewed by two TV networks, where he accused Minister Rodrigo Hinzpeter of covering up the larger narcotics ring he was investigating before being kicked out of his job as PDI inspector.

Do people even pretend to be surprised by this shit anymore?

Nothing involving the CIA and illegal activities, more specifically drug traffiking, and the proceeds of such endeavours suprizes me after the ricky ross crack cocaine/iran contra clusterfuck in the 80's. Then there were the secret international prisions used to torture prisioners of war. And the unconsented dosing of american citizens with lsd. The list goes on and on.

They are, simply put, above the law, above oversight. Its americas dirty little secret thats used when we can't get our way legitimately/legally.

Utterly despicable if this is true (I'm assuming it is). Everyone say hello to the America's KGB.

And then many ordinary Americans who are living abroad are still puzzled as to why everyone else seems to hate them (or at the very least, doesn't trust them)? You can blame the CIA's above-the-law dirty work against other nationalities when they don't get their way as one big reason. It is sad that a lot of the time, average, innocent Americans have to take the flak for their government's unacceptable behavior.

I agree with the rest of the world i hate the dea and other agencies and especially hate the imperialistic attitudes

I wouldn't be surprised if the top end of drug trade in the U.S. itself were partially controlled clandestinely by the government.

There is one set of rules for them and then one for the rest of us. We have to follow the law and they don't.

The c.I.A. puts any drug dealer in the books to shame. The United States needs them to tho. drug money ensures huge amounts of liquidity to help keep the economy moving how they want. Any government abroad that needs to be overthrown in a clandestine manner can be done so by giving rebels guns for drugs to sell for more money to fund blackops and what have you. in 2000 Afghanistan produced like 70 some odd percent of the worlds opium supply before the Taliban shut down opium farming, we all know the story shortly there after

Mike Ruperts "crossing the rubicon" puts together the most comprehensive case against these guys

Well in 2007 a known (they "neither confirm nor deny it") CIA plane crashed near the east coast of Mexico (from its flight path it looks like its destination was the US) and was found to be carrying 4 tonnes of cocaine (the original reports in the Mexican Press also stated there was 1 tonne of heroin on board, but this is not mentioned in later releases). Did anyone get imprisoned? Of course not. The reason it was able to be identified as a CIA aircraft was because it was the same one that had been used for 3 rendition flights in Europe and to Guantanamo in 2003 and 2005 respectively.

Just shows what a ridiculous farce the "drug war" is.

I bet the CIA have a vested interest in pumping out as much heroin from Afghanistan as they can as well.

Yeah, kinda like the c-130's from the forest service that somehow ended up crashing/getting caught carrying tons of narcotics. But to be fair the cia diddn't have anything to do with that so says the legal system they are not held accountable to. I totally beleive the cia had nothing to do with that. I trust my government to not lie to me. =D (insert bill hicks ironic eyes rolled back fundamentalist theist expression on my face).

The war on drugs is really just a controlled chaos to fuel this activity.

IMO.

This is huge news. Yet people will continue to look at politicians rather than government agencies. I am afraid of the world government as they have such an upper hand at manipulating people.

Ah yes. The old quandary: who watches the watchers?

I do beleive the CIA could be funding the oposition to spread rumours to destabilize the Ecuadorian government, Correa has done alot for Ecuador and if there is anything im sure of it is that he is not very corrupt. This guy illegalized the sale of alcohol on sundays and he also banned gambling in Ecuador, he allowed the people to vote and the majority voted against it so they banned it. As a regular visitor to Ecuador i can only speak positively of this man and i think the Americans are scared of what he is capable of, Ecuador is a small country that has become very powerful and has advanced very quickly in short time, a good friend of mine recently commented that Correa is "untouchable" and he will deffinetly win the elections again, this man is powerful and that scares the U.S, i do not beleive him to be corrupt, i was in guayaquil when the police left theyre jobs and protested because of a policy he was imposing and this guys response with a gun pointed to his head was that he would rather die than change the policy, the result was a bunch of looting and the guy next to Correa got a bullet which wasnt meant for him. Right now the situation in Ecuador is very good, the country has improved during his regime and the people are happy with him, Ecuadorians are notorious for throwing out elected leaders when the people are dissatisfied.
