Hello Bluelighters...

Exactly one year ago I had tried marijuana for the first time in my life. My boyfriend had gotten some fresh buds from a new neighbor (we had no idea who this guy was) and, against my better judgement of taking drugs from strangers, I succumbed to my boyfriend's wishes and tried smoking pot.

We both had a -horrible- trip. I was curled on the ground, struggling to breathe, vomiting and choking. My heart rate went through the roof for nearly four hours. It was so bad, I was convinced I was going to have a heart attack. I shook so violently that my jaw locked. I couldn't close my eyes because the room was spinning too quickly, but keeping them open was a nightmare, too - my eyes kept tracking.

What REALLY freaked me out was my boyfriend's response. He is a marijuana aficionado - he had smoked pot nearly half of his life, multiple times a day, and he was repeatedly screaming "THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS POT... THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG." He was pacing and crying and having a complete nervous breakdown. I have NEVER seen that reaction from him (he often smokes due to medical issues). To this day, he swears that was the worst pot he ever had.

The buds were really, really sticky and wet, to the point where my boyfriend almost gave up on lighting it - I don't know if our neighbor had just picked them or if they were laced with something, but we live in an area were pot is P.L.E.N.T.I.F.U.L. and VERY easy to get, so I wouldn't know WHY they would be laced.

I haven't done pot since, and have absolutely no desire to. I do not drink (I have an allergy to alcohol) and have never partaken in any other drugs.

Here's my problem:

Ever since that night, EVER since then, every day I have a severe feeling of derealization - or, to describe it better, a terrible case of Solipsism Syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solipsism). I call it the 'Vanilla Sky' syndrome.

Basically, what I feel 24/7 is that nothing around me is real - that no one actually exists except for myself and everyone and everything is just a figment of my imagination, as if everything is projected from my mind and I'm the only 'real' thing living in a constructed dream (as in what Tom Cruise's character went through... exactly this).

I thought it would go away, but it hasn't even slipped a little bit. After an entire year, I'm now thinking that this is permanent. I was completely fine before this experience, and had several psych tests done (required for a position I needed) and passed with flying colors. Since then, my doctor has tried numerous anti-depressants and anti-anxieties, but it only makes the feelings a lot worse, so I've dropped them all. I've even tried natural remedies (herbs, aromatherapy, acupuncture) to no avail.

I've talked to several specialists, including a neurologist, and she commented that this must be terrifying (it is). I had severe panic attacks the first few months, and I still get them on occasion when I dwell on the feeling, to the point where I feel highly suicidal.

Can anyone relate? Does anyone know what happened, or what to do?

Thank you.

It sounds like you smoke some kind of RC cannabinoid. I am so sorry about what happened to you I wish I could be more helpful.

Yeh the pot was definitley laced .

Another reason why weed should be legal . So we can have a standard and regulated peoduct that users enjoy .

Also if your bf was a true pot head he wouldnt have even tried to keep lighting some wet really sticky weed . Theres obviously something wrong with it if its like that .

I don't think we can say it's 'definitely' been laced since that's just speculation. However if it was, a synthetic cannabinoid would now be the most likely substance used to do it. If I were you I would just speak to the neighbor and ask him straight up whether it was laced. If he can empathize with you perhaps he's more likely to be honest. That is if he is aware of what was put in on it if it wasn't just good bud, which is a strong possibility.

I'm going to be completely honest with you here.

The Marijuana was not laced. I can absolutely guarantee you that. The laced Marijuana epidemic is just another strategy to protect Marijuana's "harmless" label, it is very rare to get laced weed. I live in Northern California and have smoked since I was 15, faced more mental problems with Marijuana than any other drug I have tried. (This is also probably because I used it the most though.)

The fact of the matter is, laced Marijuana is rare because dealers or growers would like their customers to come back to them, not to fucking freak out and never buy from them again. In my years of smoking, and those of my friends, we have never received laced Cannabis.

Here is what happened, it is very possible that the Marijuana you received was "harvested" way to early so that the trichomes were very "pre-mature" as they say. It's like pulling a baby from it's mothers womb at 3 months, there is going to be something wrong with it.

It is a very well known fact among the growing community that earlier harvests (pre-mature) trichomes provide a much more paranoia inducing, racy, and cerebral high than when you harvest on time or at a late time. This is why your boyfriend felt weird as well, he probably never has smoked Marijuana that was harvested so early as this type of weed is very rare and indicates an extremely unexperienced grower or grower's mistake.

As far as the Derealization/Depersonalization goes, I am going to be completely honest with you here. DR/DP episodes are most often triggered through Marijuana induced Panic attacks. What happens with the brain is that when it encounters so much fear and panic, it is a natural mechanism for most people to "seperate the mind and the body" from the pain it is feeling and depersonalize. It is a defense mechanism of the brain to protect itself, it basically NUMBS itself from its surroundings to avoid the pain. Just as a human would hide from one who is striking them or shooting at them, it goes into a protective and shielded state.

I have been a member of many Depersonalization/Derealization forums and it is shocking how many people get it from smoking weed or during a weed induced panic attack. I cannot guarantee you it is going away, but I will tell you one thing. Drugs and alcohol will make this disorder a ten fold worse. You need to be sober and healthy if you want to give this thing a chance at going away. You probably will have to quit Marijuana for the rest of your life as you are pre disposed to "dissociation". This is why you are feeling this and your boyfriend is not.

Do not smoke Marijuana or alcohol, any type of drugs for that matter. Stay healthy and try these vitamins, they may or may not work:
Fish Oil
Magnesium
Hypothalmex
Black Current Seed Oil
Hypothalmex PMG (Female)
Tuna Mega Oil
Simplex Female
Folic Acid

(Possibly "Nueroplex" and "Neurotrophin PMG")

I have seen some people recover after two years, even many years after it was triggered. Hope is still here but there are no guarantees.

Good luck to you.

Chee$e,

I sincerely thank you for your extremely informed response.

I read your post to my boyfriend and he immediately gave me an important piece of information that he had not told me before:

After that terrible night, I thought that we had just thrown the pot away. It turns out he had kept it, dried it, and smoked it again to see if he would have a similar response (he is MUCH braver than I).

He was JUST FINE. It was like any other high - NO bad effects WHATSOEVER.

So, your guess that it was picked too early fits -perfectly- (I truly think the grower had picked it directly off of the plant. They were seriously sticky, wet, and looked really fresh. Almost too brightly green). I thank you dearly!!

It is rather disheartening to see how many people have suffered a similar response as myself. It is just as upsetting to know that it is taking so long to return to 'normal'. However, your post brings me hope to know that some individuals have spent a few years recovering, and have been successful doing so.

I will purchase the supplements that you have recommended, and likewise, continue to distance myself from alcohol and other drugs.

Please understand that I can not re-iterate how appreciative I am for your post. Thank you very much.

Artificial Emotion, I demanded my boyfriend to get in touch with that neighbor (he had conveniently moved the day after the issue) and the guy swore that there was nothing wrong with it. Actually, he was asking if we wanted to purchase some from him. Needless to say, we didn't follow up. Thank you for your response!

To everyone else, I also appreciate your contributions and your willingness to assist me in figuring out what could have happened. Thank you for responding to my plea. I am much obliged.

Your weed wasn't laced, it's just not economically viable. Cheese is right in that it's more than likely anxiety related. Good luck.

The only thing weed will be laced with is with synthetics, water, or flavoring substances. You'd notice the marked difference in your peak, which would be much more rapid and pronounced, and a hard, heavy come-down if it is/was. There is no way to test for it. It's nearly impossible to tell by looking, especially if it was sprayed on after being dissolved. This is usually only done with mid grade or kb cannabis to make it seem better than it is. For top shelf, I have trouble thinking someone would do this, because it would actually lower the quality and make the high streaky and much worse.

Any other drug on cannabis makes no sense, and you'd be able to tell by smell or looking. But again, it makes no sense as a dealer to spike your cannabis and then sell it at normal prices - why do it?

I doubt it's PCP, the smell and taste is a dead giveaway for anyone with any experience with weed. Plus I feel PCP's actually pleasant and euphoric. Synthetics are a possibility. Also I feel that there may be certain pesticides and molds that can induce those effects.

Having such an experience can be traumatic. I haven't had long-term effects even from spice, which fucks with your mind more than weed. But I could see someone developing PTSD from synthetics.

The fact that you're a novice to the drug suggests that you're not as used to the effects as someone that's been smoking daily for years. Until you're a veteran it's quite easy for very potent or unusual strains to take you by surprise and make you think that your weed has been laced. Probably more than 99% of the time people claim they think their weed has been laced it actually hasn't. In fact it's so common for people to come on here and to say this that it's not surprising at all. Almost all the people could of sworn their weed must have had something added to it when in fact it's just really potent weed.
