Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc: Religion

OK, OK..

What do people make of The Infancy Gospels of Thomas and the Arabic Infancy Gospels?

Infancy Gospels of Thomas said:
2 And when Jesus saw what was done, he was wroth and said unto him: O evil, ungodly, and foolish one, what hurt did the pools and the waters do thee? behold, now also thou shalt be withered like a tree, and shalt not bear leaves, neither root, nor fruit. 3 And straightway that lad withered up wholly, but Jesus departed and went unto Joseph's house. But the parents of him that was withered took him up, bewailing his youth, and brought him to Joseph, and accused him 'for that thou hast such a child which doeth such deeds.'

IV. 1 After that again he went through the village, and a child ran and dashed against his shoulder. And Jesus was provoked and said unto him: Thou shalt not finish thy course (lit. go all thy way). And immediately he fell down and died.

The Arabic Infancy Gospels also include this story - although they slightly differ.

Has anyone else noticed how Jesus seems so easy to connect with lately?

I don't actually see him physically, but when I get in touch with him, usually by myself making a great effort or he making a special effort to pull me up, I can feel his energy very strongly and hear his words in my mind almost like he might as well be there. It hasn't always been like that, Jesus was more like the last thing I really got into as I used to find him too depressing and demanding.

He talks kind of similar to how he talks in the bible and you can feel the same energy there in the words. He talks with a sense of humble greatness or self-composed glory. He's in no way focused on that as that is just something natural he achieved long time ago or stopped caring about a long time ago. He's way above the ego and more like melded with the whole and wonders how to help everyone have the full connection to God that leads to the perfect life he has. How to make them realise the one thing has to go before the other and many other things. That is the only missing piece from his life.

He starts making comments about this that are worthwhile to listen to already as a young child and starts attracting attention. But when he discovers more about humanity and how hard it is he becomes more silent and just thinks. Then he goes on to study religious history. His speciality is how to start and uphold a religion. Although he doesn't actually want to start a religion, although still ends up doing it indirectly, but instead a form of free-thinking, independent spirituality where everyone are free to grow at their own pace in the way they wish of their own.

He knows this is both the only natural way to spiritual growth and God's will. Try to keep this some of this in mind more than the bible when you think about him as I think it's a lot more helpful. He is directly responsible for what is happening right now when many are starting to purify themselves, see more clearly, and reach higher spiritual states.

^My interpretation of what you're experiencing would be that you are not actually hearing Jesus, like he is some ascended master who has time to converse with any human that contacts him. Personally I would think you are conversing with the archetype of Jesus; something immanent within your own mind, not some external being.

The Christ archetype is represented by Tiphereth on the Tree of Life, and if you are experiencing a strong connection to this type of thought, you may find it interesting to read and meditate on the ideas associated with this Sephirah.

I don't know though, maybe you are contacting Jesus, but the above ideas add another worthwhile perspective to explore imo.

Yes, that could also be, although it's almost a way of putting the same experience in different words. Jesus seems to be very universal or accessible to anyone tho wants to connect with him. He seems like the easiest to connect to when you really get started.

I can't really imagine exactly how it works, but it's not like I was born with the ability, and I think many need to work for a long time for it. It usally comes along as a result of a special focus and an intense emotional state. How I imagine him is largely my own creation. Sometimes I see him as a form of the stereotypical Jesus-type with long hair. Other times I see him more as a greek God with golden hair in pastel colours with a wide-reaching radiance.

Anyway, the visuals doesn't really matter, they're just a way for me to connect with him. The feelings or energies and thoughts feel more real. They can be so insisting and come along with such rapid force it's not something that you could realistically just come up with from nothing. But then of course I happen to be someone who's trained themselves to put them in that kind of state as a trance state and connect to all kinds of things.

It's more in the past year that I've started to connect with Jesus. I've been through several overdoses and near-death type experiences and the best one I concluded was could call for then was Jesus. He usually doesn't help so much in a physical sense but comes along more as a precence and energy and tries to calm you down and talk some sense into you. He's a true master of the challenges of human life and polarity and can expand in detail on every single aspect of it.

Maybe you need to really want it to connect to him. I was practically breaking, or had to go through psychological breaks, before I gave in and started listening to it. Now I sees it more as he sees it but it's no as easy as the fairy-tale like reality view I'd been used to. It's hard. He asks you to wake up to all reality and take complete responsnsibility. When you feel good he can be a "downer". It's when you feel really bad he can be uplifting, from my experience, although I guess it doesn't have to be like that.

I went into this thread expecting something g wholly different...

Anyway my .02

I am an atheist, but that is not to say I am without belief. I find the belief that there is no god, that everything can be rationally explained to be more comforting than the existence of a god.

Religion is either a set of parables to make people act as the best they can be, or an imperfect translation of god.

If a god were to exist and show themselves to you, would you be able to capture the glory? It is like a plus four trip, you cannot share the experience with others as it is ineffable. Ergo the bible and all other works are simply attempts at creating god, not successes.

Even so, whether god exists or not many religious texts are simply beautifuly writtenl, even when advocating things that are currently abhorrent.

^If it was Divine Inspiration that led to the selection of the 73 books considered canonical by the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, then the texts you mention are non-canonical for a reason, and only of concern to academics, heretics, and curious.

Christians are probably monumentally indifferent to really old fan fiction.

Yeah the texts weren't put into the bible because it didn't fit their agenda..

All texts in the bible would be classed as "really old fan fiction" if that's what you want to call it.. They were all written well after Jesus was dead.

^Oral tradition started by eyewitnesses, i.e. the apostles (apostolic succession important part of church legitimacy), was later recorded in writing, some variance in minor details notwithstanding. The canonical Gospels are not fictional, assuming Christianity is true. If we assume it false (a man made tradition) and enter a dialogue expecting religious persons to do the same....well that conversation is not going to go anywhere, and is not going to help you understand the religion any better.
