I was thinking about childhood today and the Choose Your Own Adventure series of books. I spent many an hour exploring these books - sometimes cheating to get a better outcome - and just thinking about it brought back fond memories.

I then thought about life and how it's pretty much the choose your own adventure book of reality. We move on through childhood, adolescence and into adulthood making decisions about our next move and where we want to be. The only difference is it's harder to turn back the pages of our life adventure and manipulate the future in our favour.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooo............ If it was as easy to flick back the pages of your life, as it is with a Choose Your Own Adventure book, then what would you change and what is the different path you would take???

Would have stuck it out with a girlfriend who I was briefly with but broke up for stupid reason which seemed right at the time. Moved to another town not long after so might still be there had I stuck it out.

I wouldn't have walked into the bank and got myself into debt...plus i wish i hadn't taken two years off after i graduated high school...Should have started looking for work straight away...having two year's off just caused bulk problems :(

Loved those books, so easy to cheat with them though! "I'll just peek ahead to p. 55 and see if the outcome is any good, if not, no problemo, my finger has saved my spot."

I'd go back to when I was 15 and stop myself from beginning my cycles of addiction.

Failing that, I'd go back a few years and beg my father to stop drinking and smoking for the sake of his health.

Im gunna be a bit different and say there is bugger all I would want to change in the past BUT..............

I would like to have the balls to do some things in the fuiture such as just up and start driving around the country living off the dole and bits of work here and there.

But I would like to be able to flick forward and see how it works out first.

Would never had that first punt & gambled.

'I'll pay the bills next week'

If you want to get addicted to heroin, turn to page 48.

If you want to stay clean, but post with a bunch of Australians, turn to page 153.

Either way, I lose.

Well met, OP.

Haha I remember those things! Great time-wasters in class. I remember the ones that were quasi-roleplaying with dice rolling involved too being popular at school (by Steve Jackson?) There's so much I'd change.... but then I wouldn't be the person I am today right?

I'd consider flicking back and smoking less weed in highschool, chose a different undergraduate degree, go straight into the workforce rather than fucking around with post-grad studies, getting burnt out and going nowhere career-wise, would skip the chapters on speed and alcohol addiction, speed-read through the disastrous relationship pages, etc etc etc.

Lol *skips to the dark side to read the ending*

%)

hahaha same....I was always like...it's not really CHEATING, I haven't really COMMITTED to page 55, I'm just gonna see what would happen if -- oh look, I got eaten by a bear, good thing I didn't pick THAT! :D

There is nothing that I actually wanna change from my past, but it would be interesting to go back and do the Sliding Doors thing and just see what things would have been like if I had made different choices, just out of idle curiosity... :)

nope, wouldnt change a thing. I've learnt that you can't have regrets in life (as cliched as it sounds) because you wouldnt be where you are today and who you are which is who you are meant to be and thats all due to the hardships and the mistakes you made. Wouldn't change a damn thing :)

Nope.... won't change a damned thing, been through so many fuck ups in 6 states of working and living in Australia, they just taught me a lot and try become bit wiser. It's been a awesome journey last 12 years with so many ups and downs.....in 68 days I will be in Helsinki Finland polishing off local Vodka with my distant relatives there. :)
