Yeah - it's hard to describe beyond 'like heroin' which is a tautology.

I've come across both medical diamorphine and real SE Asian white heroin (generally 90-95% pure diluted with caffeine allowing it to be smoked) and they DO have a very specific aroma.

I thought it smelled very generally floral with peppery undertones when I was privileged enough to have the very finest brown. It smelled so fresh and rich I highly suspected a local supplier and a small grow op. It tasted connoisseur grade. Then I had some off grey shit that was fantastic and it had almost no smell at all.

All of it snorted. I broke the brown down into monkey water and the white mixed with water and left no residue.

Two university friends who bought and sold the deadly drug fentanyl via the dark web have been jailed.

Ross Brennan, 28, and Aarron Gledhill, 30, made hundreds of thousands of pounds mixing and selling the high-strength painkiller and other drugs.

At least 70 people have died in the UK in the last nine months after taking fentanyl, often when mixed with heroin.

Brennan and Gledhill, both from Huddersfield, pleaded guilty to drug and money laundering offences.

Brennan was jailed for 13 years and eight months while Gledhill was sentenced to three years and nine months by Judge Andrew Stubbs, at York Crown Court.

OK, I do know that when diamorphine was first legally controlled in the UK (1916), the first analogs (actually homologues) began to appear and one of them was nicomorphine (3,6-dinicotinoylmorphine) which I GUESS had pyridine rings in the structure... but It does rather suggest that neither defendant had even the most cursory understanding of what they were selling.

BTW Is 'Savage Butyr fentanyl' is (was?) simply the n-butanimide homologue of fentanyl? The sheer incompitence should be enough to put people off from buying from people who are dumb enough to choose a name to append to each of their products... making identification much easier... not very bright.

I checked and 'savage' is actually a pretty common keyword. The OED notes 24 different meanings although of those seven are considered obselete and two of the remaining are classed as offensive.

Reading the story strongly suggests that no marketing genius was involved.

Taking apparent pride in a product you supplied killing end users gives an insight into their motivation. A power kick. I'm certain in my own mind that they joked just how easily they could kill their customers.

China White used to mean #4 ie Diamorphine HCl, but typically nowadays it means a fentanyl cut.

If you do get the real deal, it is likely more potent, and as it's water soluble you can snort it more efficiently and inject it just by dissolving it into water without an acid.

It's like LSD in the sense that the only 'purity' aspect is how much of it is heroin. There is no 'dirty acid', it just means it's not as potent, but it's the same drug. You just need a bigger dose.

If you're going to try this stuff, use test strips at the very least. Preferably get it tested with a mass spectrometer incase it's cut with some opioid the strips don't detect

Even if it's uncut, the white heroin can be very very strong, use extreme caution with how much you do

Obviously I don't know the details but I've been told that in bulk (a Kg or more), the competition between the Mexican cartels has driven down wholesale prices. I've read $2000-$2500/Kg but obviously I don't know the purity at that scale.

I ASSUME that whatever homologue is being sold, someone 'standardizes' the potency or else even more deaths would uccur.

I've met people who were careful not to sign anything, not to hold anything in their home, not even touch the product. If someone sub-lets a bedroom, the UK police are only allowed to search areas that the tenent has ;rented;. I know this because a friend let a room to a guy who ever even visited. It was just a postbox for them. But when the police came looking, they could only search that bedroom. Of course, if their is good reason to believe both are involved, the whole house gets searched. To this day none of us (30 years later), none of us know what the guy was up. Ge didn't say, we didn't ask.
