Child dies after mother puts methadone in sippy cup

Slimvic are you a lawyer or a used car salesman or marketing exec by chance? You have a nice way with words, an ability to make someone believe whatever you want them to. not saying youre wrong, I actually somewhat agree with you, Im actually complimenting you

Thanks for the compliment, but it is not my persuasive powers that are doing this.
It is, I would say, my basic respect for the human being, and for morality and fairness.
People make mistakes. Sometimes, those mistakes don't turn into anything significant. But people make lots and lots of mistakes, and so once in a while a mistake ends up have huge consequences. If the girlfriend in the article made a mistake, it would be unfair to vilify her as a monster. Not careful enough, certainly. Responsible for her actions, certainly. But if she is not a murderer, she should not be called a murderer.

i'm not saying she isn't guilty of manslaughter. i'm saying it was an accident that could have happened to anyone, and will happen given the amount of babies and amount of drugs in the world. and when it does happen, it makes the news...

what i'm saying is that she doesn't deserve to have the book thrown at her. she's in hell already.

qwe I'll give you 2 scenarios:

1) Girl goes to buy two 80 mg bottles of meth from a clinic patient. Clinic patient won't give the girl the meth in the take-home bottles because they're labeled. So girl drinks one bottle and puts the contents of the other bottle in a sippy cup that happens to be on the floor of her car. Girl gets home and is kinda drowsy, so she isn't really mindful of things.

2) Girl is jealous of her boyfriend's baby mama, whom the boyfriend still probably messes around with. The kid gives the baby mama an excuse to hang around their lives. Subconsciously the girl transfers a lot of her jealousy to the kid. As so many Floridians have done in the past couple of years, the girl kills the kid (via poisoning).

OK either one is plausible, but scenario 1 sounds a little bullshit.

Interesting attitude from someone claiming the high moral ground.
To come out with profane insults like that is a clear sign of anger.
And yet, the post s/he is complaining about merely expressed sympathy for the girlfriend, but did not say anything bad about the boy.

Anger at sympathy is hardly a loving exchange, if you ask me.

We are not allowed to feel sympathy for the girlfriend, because Cold will threaten us with scary language. 8)
S/he does not permit us this feeling. We are only allowed to feel sympathy for the boy.
Accidents do not happen, or if they do, then someone is always responsible, and we should never feel sympathy for that person. Cold has determined that this is the way it is, and if we disagree, we are monsters.

Such strong opinions and language coming from someone who is not involved in the affair and knows no more than the rest of us who read the article is actually quite laughable.

BULLY!:\

What scary language? What profane insults? All I said was that the mod was a moron. What's the big deal? You're an amusing, sarcastic, witty little prick I must say. I appreciate your personality. If we met in real life, we would probably make excellent friends, and that's fact.:)

Good to know. Now settle down. -phrozen

Actually, in your original post, you also said "Fuck you, moderator".
It was edited out for you.

I think you are judging me without knowing enough about me. I am not very sarcastic at all. Mostly just honest and loving.

Having worked with the public for a long period of time, I believe at least 30% of the population is dumb enough to do something like this in a proper state of mind.
She might have been extremely tired, given a sedating dose of methadone, not used to being around young kids, or millions of other possibilities. I agree that saying she did it on purpose based on a very short article is absurd. She could be completely distraught about what happened. No reason to intensely hate this lady without all the facts.

gf was jealous of the kid. Why else would someone put a take-home in a sippy cup?

spini your header is screwy

yep- callous

weather it was subconcious or not this all adds up to new girlfriend disliking step child, which is a common theme.

think of lion cubs

^ I cant have sympathy for someone who puts methadone in a sippy cup when they know a toddler is around. And it wasnt the mother it was the fathers jealous girlfriend.
Say what you want. But this women knew what she was doin

I concur 100%.

Slimvictor, Im with you.

First of all the title makes it appear that the kids mother intentionally put methadone in a sippy cup and fed it to her child. The reality is much different.

THE WOMAN WHO LEFT IT IN THE CUP WAS NOT THE MOTHER.....Why would SHE have motherly instincts? Why would she be thinking in the best interest of the kid? In an ideal world she would, since she was around him, but she wasnt his mother, wasnt responsible for taking care of him, and she probably didnt think the same way that a parent would as far as "things you can leave out around kids" or not.

I dont understand how so many of yall are SO FUCKING SURE that this was on purpose.

How many addicts here have done harmful shit that they regretted and felt lucky that it didnt turn out worse? How many of yall have nodded out at a stop light? How many of yall lived in homes with younger brothers or sisters and had needles and bags of dope in your drawer on your bed side tables? How many have fell asleep or nodded out with a lit cigarette in your family home? YOU coulda killed or hurt a child too, you know. the fact that it didnt happen was not thanks to your skill at avoiding mistakes, it was just luck that it didnt turn into something worse. I could go on forever. The truth is, that as drug users, I would bet money that most of yall have fucked up at some time and somethin bad happened--and shit worked out ok, but it coulda been so much worse.

If a mother goes driving with her kid in the car while she is drowsy from some medication she is on, and she falls asleep at the wheel and crashes and her kid dies, would yall be saying "SHE MEANT TO DO IT!! SHE KILLED THE KID!"

DOING SOMETHING THAT YOU "SHOULD KNOW BETTER" THAN TO DO BECUZ IT MIGHT HURT A KID, BUT YOU DO IT ANYWAYS FOR A REASON (OR NO REASON) THAT ONLY YOU AND GOD KNOW, DOES NOT EQUAL INTENT TO MURDER.

So many of yall CLEARLY admit that this was a mistake, a really stupid one that she never shoulda made. It is such a bad mistake, that the woman who did it automatically intended to kill a child. Its called NEGLIGENCE. She made a mistake. She fucked up, for sure. But how the fuck does "She should know better than to do that, and most people wouldnt do that becuz its super-stupid" equal "Therefore, she meant to kill the child."

Becuz nobody could be that stupid? Look at the world around you! Theres some pretty sad, stupid things that people do all over the planet. You have NO IDEA if she intended to do this or not. She didnt take the cup and bring it into the kids play area and put it down on his little Lego play table and then "forget" it there. She had it IN HER ROOM. She aint a mother. She dont have a mothers mind. She dont think the same way a mother does, regardless of if she SHOULD, she obviously didnt.

Some of yall are so fucking goddamn judgemental that it really makes me shake my head in shame for you. So willing to be the lynch mob of this woman who no doubt already wishes she would just drop dead and melt into the ground, and so willing to defend people like Lindsay Lohan when she hits people with her car while driving around drunk and high.

All the EVIDENCE here does NOT point towards intentional killing of this child. Thats why she AINT charged with murder. I think that the prosecution would just LOVE to hit this woman with a murder charge, and would do everything they could to do that, so if they didnt , I think its fair to say that there AINT NO EVIDENCE to support that it was intentional.

There is ONE situation where this woman coulda did this on purpose, and ENDLESS situations where it coulda been an accident.

why a sippy cup? Has any of yall ever lived in a less than perfect house? Maybe there was no fucking clean dishes and the kids cup was the only one that was available, so she grabbed it and poured the shit in there without thinking. Maybe this, maybe that, maybe a million.

Yall have never made a mistake, right? Oh well surely never a mistake THIS big.

But the fact that you have EVER made a mistake is proof that you could fuck up too. If we were all so fuckin smart and logical and thought everydamnthing thru perfectly to the end everytime, NONE Of us would EVER make mistakes. Obviously , such intelligent, perfect, always do the right thing no matter wat and never slip up not even a little type people as the ones judging this woman in here, would ever be in a position where one SMALL mistake ended up turning into one HUGE one, right?

Everybody here thinks they are so damn great and its all becuz of chance. Becuz the time that you forgot to turn off the oven , your house DIDNT burn down, so it was OK. It COULDA been a huge mistake tho, but it wasnt-due to luck and chance. NOT due to you being so smart that you could never make a mistake big enough to be serious. you never fucking know the horrible shit that can happen at random until you experience it. The day that she put that cup on her dresser top was the day the shit went down.

How about if it wasnt? wat if she stored it in that cup every day, so that if her cat jumped up on her dresser and knocked it down, it wouldnt spill out and lose her dose? Wat if she had put that cup up there everyday for a month straight and nothing ever happened, so she thought it was safe there? who the fuck knows?

None of yall, thats for sure.

the amount of hate in these responses is sickening. I hope somebody would be so kind to you 8(

this amount of stupid hate occurs predictably in almost any article about children suffering or other "hot buttons"...

+1

I think that maybe the people shouting "murder" must have low self-confidence, and they are trying to prove to themselves that they are superior to somebody.
They are looking for an excuse to say "I would NEVER do that. I don't make mistakes (like that). We can kill that person because they are obviously inferior."

Maybe I am wrong, but there is something in their psychology that I do not like.
So judgmental, without any solid information.
Maybe they are the same people that think Palin would make a great president?
Just sayin'...

yes I agree fully with you slimvictor she is not a murder but putting methadone in a sippy cup is far from a mistake that's just ignorance...

i was thinking maybe they've all killed a child before, and are "projecting"8)

if you are around kids you dont leave your drugs lying about. if you were responsible for your drugs and you leave them somewhere a child can get easily, in a child's cup, then how much of that is down to the child and how much is down to you (the adult, with a capacity to think and prevent dangers)?

if you're on a ladder, you be really careful, or you might fall. if you make a space shuttle, you make sure the booster rocket seals are tight enough, or you might get a challenger incident.

captain hindsight to the rescue %)

..Ladders and space shuttles are typically not used around children. Neither should heroin, methadone, caffeine, etc. Juice goes in sippy cups. Controlled substances do not. 8) This woman is a drug addict and should not be in the vicinity of small children. She is a danger to herself and others. There are no two ways around that.
