Chicago Pot Farm’s Plants as Big as Trees

Police in a helicopter stumbled upon what may be the largest outdoor pot farm in the city’s history. Planted in rows and spread over an area the size of two football fields, as many as 1,500 plants averaging 6-feet tall were growing amidst heavy brush in an industrial area on the city’s South Side.

“This would not be visible from the street,” said Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy at a press conference today. “It’s surrounded by a huge field that you wouldn’t see anywhere (but) from the air. ”

He estimated the hidden pot to be worth $7 million to $10 million.

The discovery was noteworthy not only for the size of the growing area but for the size of the plants themselves, some as tall as Christmas trees, according to police. ”Usually you see a marijuana plant that’s 3-feet high. These resemble plants that you’d see out in California, running anywhere from 4-foot to 8-foot high,” said Nick Roti, head of the Chicago Police Organized Crime Bureau.

Police will haul out the marijuana and burn it at a disposal site used by the bomb and arson squad.
But McCarthy said the importance of this discovery is more than just finding and destroying so much pot. Busts like this put “the squeeze on the finances of organizations” whose drug profits spread violence.

“Whoever harvests this marijuana is obviously running a large-scale operation,” McCarthy explained. “And at the same time the profits from that will be used to purchase firearms. And that’s where the violence comes in- is the competition for the markets.”

I think the cop is saying that the profits obtained from selling to the potheads will be used to buy guns by the large scale operaters which i believe to an extant is true( although i doubt theyre going to spend ALL thier money on guns). Still though doesnt change the fact that the profits are only going to criminals because the police and politicians. If pot were sold legally, than criminals woulndt get the money from it and wouldnt be able to trade a relativly harmless plant for guns....

Do you get much hash in America? We used to in Aus back in the 90's but it's very very rare now, no mass importations by the likes of Howard Marks (mr nice) anymore, I ask because i was just reading this article (didnt think it worth starting a thread about, its very short) -

We do get hash in America but like all pot, pot extracts, edibles, etc., they are more prevalent and with a better price in medical states. Quality is also much better on average.

Cool, i kinda miss it. We used to get stuff from the middle east or where ever it came from, as it had those mad stamps in the large blocks and cellophane wrap around them, very high quality shit. Funny how it just stopped tho, never to be seen here again pretty much. I think shipping containers loaded with it used to make it in, then border security and customs got onto it and busted a heap of people and made it not worth doing anymore, especially with the huge increase of potent hydro buds here over time.

We get a ton of hash here in Washington... but then again, we're famous for our growers, and there's literally thousands of them in just this one state, so there's never a shortage of product to be made into hash.

Tons of medical hash around too, and I'd bet we get a lot of stuff shipped down from Canada and Cali.. so yeah, there's hash all around here.


and of course, you can always simply make your own extracts... it's not hard at all

Hash is everywhere. I would like to see a video of the "burning". Makes me wonder how many of them smoke on the DL. I think this is kinda stupid. Burning weed--uhh huh. Crazy

Well we don't really get any imported hash either... at least, not from anywhere that you can't drive too from here. Most of it is from small time growers who turn a pound or two into hash.

Not really any of the giant hash labs that used to be around when the Brotherhood of Eternal Love was operating.. there are just so many smaller dealers that it fills in all the gaps. That's also why I laugh when people try to link marijuana to organized crime.... the majority of growers just do it because it's fun, relatively easy and is the most expensive cash crop out there. Sure, there are some major marijuana organizations... but hell it only takes maybe 3 people to grow a few TONS of a weed
